Port Elizabeth has a wealth of fantastic bakeries. The bakeries can be found throughout the city but there is a particularly high concentration in the suburb of Walmer.
Most of the bakeries also have a coffee shop with an espresso machine and many also serve breakfasts and lunches.
Below are a list of bakeries that Home Food and Travel have visited and enjoyed.
Vovo Telo
Definitely among the top bakeries in Port Elizabeth on any list, Vovo Telo is famous for their pastries and coffees. The restaurant is situated in the vibrant area of Richmond Hill, Port Elizabeth.
From breads to pastries and a variety of jams, there is nothing their bakery cannot whip up. Their menu changes seasonally so you can expect something new with almost every visit.
If you’re feeling peckish and wanting to try something new and delicious in a great, comfortable atmosphere, look no further then Vovo Telo. If you do not have time to sit down, you can still grab a take-away from their menu – their amazing freshly-made bread is a case-in-point here.
Vovo Telo has built a reputation for prompt, friendly service. Free Wi-Fi also means business executives can also enjoy casual meetings over breakfast or lunch at the shop.

Banneton Bakery
Everything about the Banneton Bakery shouts perfection – it’s no coincidence they are among the top bakeries in Port Elizabeth. They are housed in a custom made bakery and restaurant.
The moment you step through the door, you know that you are in for a treat. The subtle smokiness from wood-fired baking oven, the sharp, caffeinated aromas from the espresso machine and the malty, heavenly smells of freshly baked bread are simply awesome.
Expect happy and cheerful assistance from everybody from the barista to the baker. The décor is part-functional and part-comfort and attractively pulled together.
There is no doubt in my mind that the best baguettes, rye and ciabatta breads are baked at the Banneton bakery. The menu has a heavy Italian influence thanks to the wood-fired oven and only the best ingredients are used.
