Marine Dynamics Shark & Whale Tours

Win an incredible marine safari with Marine Dynamics Shark and Whale Tours, for a family of four in Gansbaai.

A very exciting Cape Country Routes offering, Marine Dynamics is an award winning shark cage diving and viewing company based in Kleinbaai, a small harbour town, part of Gansbaai, in the Western Cape, which specialises in Great White Shark diving excursions.

This is the world’s most accessible population of Great White Sharks and the best place in the world to see, and dive with these iconic creatures in their natural environment. The bronze whaler (Copper) shark is also a frequent visitor.

Marine Dynamics’ sister company, Dyer Island Cruises, is a boat-based Eco-Marine Tourism Company which affords visitors an unforgettable experience to see the Marine Big Five – whales, dolphins, seals, penguins and sharks, as well as many species of pelagic birds. Both companies are Fair Trade Tourism certified and make a difference through marine research, conservation and education projects.

Every trip has a marine biologist on hand to inform you about the trends, traits and troubles of the endangered Great White Shark and other amazing marine species, as well as the Dyer Island ecosystem; and every trip on either a shark cage diving or a whale watching boat is an awesome adventure and an exciting crash course in marine biology. Don’t miss a visit to the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary, a significant project.

Experience the wonder of the marine Big Five with Marine Dynamics!

The Dyer Island ecosystem off the coast of Gansbaai is unique in the world, home to the Marine Big Five™ – Sharks, Whales, Dolphins, the Cape fur seal, and the endangered African Penguin – and is the subject of many nature documentaries.

It is here that the team of Marine Dynamics/Dyer Island Cruises operate with due care for the species they share with guests every day. Join them on an unforgettable and educational marine safari.

The many sheltered areas of the bay provide the breeding ground for the Southern Right Whales that migrate here from the sub-Antarctic islands between June to December each year.

Southern right whales are here to mate and calve and there is nothing more special that spending time on sea with these gentle giants. Out of this traditional whale season, you may also see Humpback whales that migrate along the coastline, a 3000 km journey from the sub-Antarctic islands towards Mozambique’s warmer waters.

Humpback whales are renowned for their incredible breaching displays. In the early half of the year you may see the shy Bryde’s whale. These whales are found along the coastline throughout the year and feed on fish so often follow large shoals.

Gansbaai is world renowned for the iconic great white sharks that visit the bay. This is one of the most accessible populations in the world as the sharks are often found just metres from shore or hunting around the 60 000 strong seal colony on Geyser Rock, opposite Dyer Island.

You may also be lucky to see the bronze whaler sharks with their shimmering gold colour that enthrals nature lovers.

We have three dolphin species that move through these waters – the Common dolphin, the Bottlenose, and the Humpback dolphin. Common dolphins are generally seen in large groups, even in the hundreds. Bottlenose dolphins tend to travel in family groups, whilst the elusive and endangered humpback dolphin may be sighted alone or in very small groups.

The African penguin breeds on Dyer Island and is sometimes seen in groups swimming at sea. Sadly, the species is classified as endangered with an estimated 13 300 breeding pairs left in South Africa.

By joining this tour, you can be assured that your choice makes a difference for conservation and the community.

Home Food and Travel advice on finding the right accommodation

So what is the right accommodation?  Well more often than not, it’s your travel budget that dictates the type of accommodation that you choose.

Expensive is not always better.  Our team at Home Food and Travel will tell you that they have camped in areas with limited ablutions and had a wonderful holiday.  They have also spent a night in a five star hotel only to be disappointed because their expectations exceeded the experience.

The reason for your travels will also affect your choice.  A business trip requires different amenities to a beach holiday.

Our articles, reviews and experiences can certainly help you make your decision.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table.

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.

On the road to great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities

If you’re driving, be safe and make use of all the wonderful farm stalls that populate South Africa’s open roads.

If you overhear somebody asking a lot of questions or see someone taking photos of empty bedrooms chances are it’s one of our Home Food and Travel team members.

We’re out looking or those great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.

See you on the road!
