There is plenty of reason to want to escape into the serene bushveld – to the Hamiltons Tented Camp. Here, you can expect 1900s-style safari adventures on the banks of the seasonal N’waswitsontso River in a private concession inside of the Kruger National Park.
Named after Colonel Stephenson Hamilton, who was instrumental in establishing the world-famous Kruger National Park, Hamiltons Tented Camp is part of the Extraordinary Collection.
It means you can expect among the best hospitality in South Africa. It’s true; previous guests noted that the staff was so friendly and the guides very well-informed about the bush.
Hamiltons is an amazing safari destination that caters for small groups, adult families and romantic couples.
Accommodation at Hamiltons Tented Camp
Accommodation at Hamiltons consists of six exceptionally private, luxury, elevated tents overlooking the N’waswitsontso River. Each unit has a private deck from which you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush.
Expect vintage-style fittings and features such as old brass light switches, steamer trunks with vintage labels revealing exciting journeys and sepia-stained photographs, which enhance the tradition and style of these ‘turn-of-the-century’ luxury safari tents.
The few modern touches include electricity, safes, hairdryer, separate freestanding soaking baths and outdoor showers, bathroom amenities, insect repellent, umbrellas, air conditioning as well as the availability of on-request Nomadic African Spa treatments in the seclusion of your private deck.
You will find the décor light and neutral with teak furniture and floors as well as gilded mirrors and crisp white linens that deliver a classy luxury tented experience.

Facilities at Hamiltons Tented Camp
Facilities at Hamiltons Tented Camp include butler services for each suite, an airport transfer service to and from the Camp, and a refreshing swimming pool with uninterrupted views of untouched Kruger Park.
It’s not entirely a bad thing if you think of it, but the area has no cell phone reception because of the remoteness of the camp. It means you can completely relax without the bothers of the modern distractions. Land Lines and Wi-Fi connectivity are still available at their other nearby lodge – Imbali Safari Lodge. Still, should you need to make an urgent call; their guides know which termite mounds to stand on…
For your wellness, there are in-room gym bags available for your use, click here to find out more. Wellness spa treatments are also available on request. These may be taken at the poolside area or on the secluded deck of your suite.
Hamiltons Tented Camp has also ensured that dining, whatever the occasion, is a classy affair. From fine crystal wine glasses to pewter silver water jugs, revel in the dining traditions of the bygone era in spectacular bushveld surroundings.
If you want to dine in the bush – under the stars; nowhere else inside of the Kruger National Park will you be able to do that except at Hamiltons.
Activities at Hamiltons Tented Camp
There are many activities to keep you occupied for days at the camp. You will enjoy some of the Kruger National Park’s spectacular landscapes and offerings of wildlife and plant life within the 10,000–hectare private Mluwati Concession located in the abundantly rich western central part of the National Park.
Experience Kruger like never before as you will have the unique experiences of off-roading inside of the national park in search of the “Big Seven” and the chance to explore the concession on foot with their guided bush walks.
Self-drives during the day at your own leisure, outside of the concession, are also encouraged. Enjoy their safari experience.
The National Park offers an opportunity to see animals such as elephants, giraffe, zebra, impalas, kudus, cheetah, leopard, lions, and hyenas in abundance and in their natural environment. The Park offers the chance to view over 145 mammal species, 114 reptiles, and 34 amphibians.
The area is also a birdwatchers’ paradise with over 500 bird species.
Reviews from previous Hamiltons Tented Camp guests
“I love it when a good plan becomes a great destination. Private butlers, onsite chefs and a front row view of South Africa’s magical bushveld! Staying at this lodge, one of three on the same 10 000 concession inside the Kruger National Park , is a dream come true,” wrote AndriesHendrik P on their TripAdvisor page.
Mariko L added; “We stayed 3 nights (supposed to be 4 but there was little delay due to overflow river). Beautifully decorated with colonial style, amazing food selection, friendly stuff and knowledgeable guide. We heard lion roaring not so far at night and some visitors nearby (baboons, bushbuck, and hippo).”
“My wife and I stayed for a night at the Hamilton’s as part of our 3 day honeymoon tour of the Kruger National Park. Wow, what can I say about the Hamilton’s Tented Camp? From the moment we arrived to the time that we left, my wife and I were treated like absolute royalty. Upon entering the lodge we were greeted by the wonderful and friendly staff who tended to our every need. As we were there for our honeymoon they surprised us with a private, candle lit dinner in our tent. The food was absolutely delicious. The game drivers were an absolute treat at the knowledge and expertise of the game driver made it all the more special. We saw so many animals during the drives including lions, hyena and cheetahs. We would definitely recommend staying there and can’t wait to go back!” said dmd613.
