There is a reason romantic couples, individuals and families particularly love the Quatermain’s 1920’s Safari Camp in the Amakhala Game Reserve. Few other places in the world exude the old-era charm of this beautiful rustic, 3-Star graded tented camp.
Established in 2008, the Quatermain’s Safari Camp is modelled on a 1920’s-style expedition camp. Everything has been designed and furnished to capture how life in the bush was during the golden age of exploration and adventure.
Discover how the famous old-era pioneers, hunters and explorers must have felt as they ventured into the then-unknown African interior.
It’s an experience of a lifetime. Previous guests have also commended the Quatermain’s 1920’s Safari Camp staff for going beyond the call of duty to accommodate every whim and need from their guests.
The camp is a 45-minute drive from Port Elizabeth – an hour’s drive from the Port Elizabeth Airport, so you do not have an excuse to not come out and experience true Africa!
Accommodation at Quatermain’s 1920’s Safari Camp
Set in the dense bush, Quatermain’s Safari Camp provides intimate accommodation in a six-bed tented camp. The colonial-style tents come with a private deck and outdoor seating area.
Inside the tents, you will find military campaign-style furniture. Every effort has been made to be as authentic as possible to the expedition-style living of the by-gone era. For obvious reasons, the only allowance made was for rustic en-suite bathrooms with modern conveniences
Following a day of adventure, you and your family or loved one can expect to relax in the centralized thatched boma area. Here, their staff will treat you local delicacies and cuisine in front of an open fire.
Dinner under the stars in the middle of the pristine bush is something every person ought to enjoy every now and again!
Afterwards, you will drift off to sleep to the sounds of the bushveld – insects singing to their mates; jackals calling to each other; a screeching owl, or if you are lucky, the roar of lions in the distance.

Cathy Cooper added; “It’s taken me 3 years to write this, but I have never forgotten how stunning this place is. My husband and I got engaged here with the three local giraffe as witnesses. We stayed for 6 magical nights and we loved every single one of them. Thank you to all who made our time here so very special.”
“Given the number of 5-star reviews we arrived with very high expectations and, I’m delighted to say, these were exceeded! We saw the big 5 and lots of other animals as well. We debated whether to stay for 2 or 3 nights and we are so glad we opted for 3, there’s so much to see. Great guides and delicious food. Loved it” wrote on their TripAdvisor page.
