Ideal time to take that Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve holiday

Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve

We’re currently going through such challenging times but it will not last forever! Taking some time out to plan and book a magnificent getaway to the Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve, on the Eastern Cape Wild Coast, is the ideal distraction – the perfect way to unwind and regain one’s strength once the restrictions have been fully lifted.

Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve is known for unforgettable safari experiences for families, groups or romantic couples. Besides having breathtaking, natural landscapes and abundant wildlife – including four of the Big Five, Inkwenkwezi offers luxury facilities.

Inkwenkwezi actually means ‘star’ in isiXhosa. The 4-Star reserve is also among the few places in South Africa where you can see rare white lions.

It is no ordinary game reserve. Visually, you get a sense of a bygone era where much of Africa was yet to be explored. Here, the ways of the bushveld continue as they have since time immemorial.

For the experience, the rates are reasonable. Their staff; from the game guides, waiters and chefs to the managers, are knowledgeable and accommodating of guests’ individual needs.

Accommodation at Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve

Inkwenkwezi provides choice accommodation – choose either the Bush Camp or the Valley Camp. All are set within a dense valley bush.

The Bush Camp is a hilltop site that overlooks the valley. It consists of six en-suite safari tents that can accommodate up to 12 people and offer guests a private game viewing deck.

They might be safari tents, but the element of luxury has not been overlooked. All tents have electricity, Cloud 9 twin beds and slatted headboards, bedside tables and bedside lamps, fans, heaters, a chest of drawers and a personal tea and coffee station.

The en-suite bathrooms feature showers that resemble a cave, blending with the natural rock and bush of the area.

You will find the Valley Camp equally spacious and well-appointed. There are six tastefully designed luxury tents that can accommodate up to 12 guests. One of the tents has a special children’s tent attached.

Besides large bath tubs, each luxurious Valley Camp tent comes with Cloud 9 beds, percale linens, a stocked mini-bar, and a four-sided glass shower, as well as an air-conditioning unit.

Each tent in the Bush and Valley Camps is positioned on its own elevated timber deck among indigenous trees. Privacy is absolute and the Valley Camp tents have inside seating areas as well as covered and uncovered private viewing decks. You’ll find it hard not to relax!

Facilities at Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve

Dining at Inkwenkwezi is an experience in itself. Sumptuous meals – breakfasts, lunches and dinners, are available for accommodation guests only and are prepared fresh on-site. Meals are enjoyed with your favourite refreshments at the Sunset Lapa, which is located in the reserve near the accommodation.

The Sunset Lapa is an elevated venue, which offers amazing views of the reserve.

Alternatively, on certain days, you can dine at the Emthombeni Restaurant, which serves both a la carte and buffet meals. Wednesday nights are Giant Burger Nights while Sundays are reserved for their Sunday Carvery Buffet. Rumour has it that the locals also come from near and far to enjoy the restaurant’s legendary 1.2kg giant hamburgers!

The Emthombeni Restaurant can also be used for small and large private functions of between 50 and 300 people. Ask them about hosting your weddings, conferencing, team building, product launches, festivals, year-end functions, retirement functions and birthday parties.

There is plenty to keep your days occupied at the reserve including game drives – during which you can enjoy sightings of four of the Big 5 and other game – quad biking; canoeing; hiking trails; and eco trails (there are five different biomes in the reserve).

At the lodges are opportunities for visiting the beach, fishing, surfing and swimming. Guests can also view migrating Southern Right Whales and dolphins in season as the reserve overlooks the Indian Ocean.

Reviews from previous Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve guests

“It was very nice in this Park. We saw a lot of animals. Our Ranger was very good. The Bar is very good and the food was also very good. My daughter loves to see the free animals. And to see the lions was an adventure. Thanks. We will come again,” wrote rolandfeindleron their TripAdvisor page.

Paul983added; “A group of 10 of us visiting SA for the England cricket tour arranged a minibus to get to this private game reserve. Once there, the game reserve guide / driver Courtney was excellent and informative seeking out lions, rhinos, giraffes, warthogs, zebras, emus etc etc during the 3 hours safari trip on a Land Rover.”

Home Food and Travel advice on finding the right accommodation

So what is the right accommodation?  Well more often than not, it’s your travel budget that dictates the type of accommodation that you choose.

Expensive is not always better.  Our team at Home Food and Travel will tell you that they have camped in areas with limited ablutions and had a wonderful holiday.  They have also spent a night in a five star hotel only to be disappointed because their expectations exceeded the experience.

The reason for your travels will also affect your choice.  A business trip requires different amenities to a beach holiday.

Our articles, reviews and experiences can certainly help you make your decision.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table.

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.

On the road to great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities

If you’re driving, be safe and make use of all the wonderful farm stalls that populate South Africa’s open roads.

If you overhear somebody asking a lot of questions or see someone taking photos of empty bedrooms chances are it’s one of our Home Food and Travel team members.

We’re out looking or those great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.

See you on the road!
