Your choice of accommodation at the Parkes Manor consists of nine individually-decorated spacious suites. Your options include three Lagoon View Suites, which can sleep up to two people in each one and six, larger Standard Suites, which can sleep up to four people in each one.

As the names suggest, the Lagoon View suites offer amazing views of the famed Knysna Lagoon and garden while the Standard Suites are back-facing. The Standard units are the obvious choice for those seeking seclusion.

With every room you get an en-suite bathroom (with a shower and separate bathtub), air-condition, fan, tea/coffee making facility, TV, DVD-player, desk, minibar, safe and heating as well as access to a private patio or balcony.

Guest facilities at the manor include free parking for your vehicles as well as a restaurant that serves offers à la carte lunches and dinners. The restaurant is also a great place to meet the friendly locals as it also caters to non-resident guests.

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance. Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion. However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review. We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.
