Roosmarijn Guesthouse is an owner-run rental beachside home in the small town of Paternoster on the West Coast. If you are planning a quiet escape from the city as a small group, family or couple, this should be your base.
Paternoster is one of the oldest fishing villages on the West Coast and is situated 15km north-west of Vredenburg and 145 km north of Cape Town, at Cape Columbine between Saldanha Bay and St Helena Bay. The area has a Mediterranean climate, which supports the growth of the famous wild flowers that the West Coast is renowned for.
Before changing its name to Roosmarijn Guest House, following its purchase by the Marais family, it was known as the Mosselbank B&B and was actually the longest established bed and breakfast in the village.
The Marais family has continued with the same tradition of offering personalized service and clean, comfortable facilities to their guests.
Breakfast is available and is served either at our guest house, or at Mondvol Coffee Shop, a short distance from the guest house.
Your host, Tertius Marais, is also a traveler of note, having visited more than 50 countries. He grew up not far from Paternoster and knows the area very well. If you need assistance, he can give you pointers on the places of interest to visit as well as the best restaurants.

Reviews from Roosmarijn Guesthouse
“Tertius was warm, welcoming and unasked; helped out with a dinner reservation for us. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The attention to detail did not go unnoticed. We opted for the breakfast voucher at Mondvol which was lovely! Would definitely go straight back! Thank you!” wrote Sharon Hinde in an online review.
Christine Ceronio added; “Roosmarijn Guesthouse, is very beautiful and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and very beautifully decorated with only the best quality. The beds are very comfortable and fitted with electric blankets for the colder evening. The house is also very close to the sea. Tertius, the owner is the perfect host and went out of his way to ensure that we had a wonderful and complete experience of Paternoster.”
“What a special place! Just a few metres and you’re on the beach. Linen was crisp, towels white and fluffy, showers hot and the owner friendly and helpful. On cold evenings, we spent cosy hours in front of the enormous fire in the lounge,” said Zelda Bezuidenhout.
