Arlington Guest Lodge is a charming 3-Star accommodation offering centrally-situated in the historic-yet-vibrant university town of Pietermaritzburg, in the KwaZulu Natal.

Founded in 1838, Pietermaritzburg is the capital and second-largest city in the province.

Situated just 200 meters from the Royal Agricultural Show Grounds and a 20-minute drive from the Pietermaritzburg Airport, Arlington Guest Lodge offers comfortable family-friendly accommodation.

The Lodge’s convenient location lends itself to easy access to amenities that Pietermaritzburg has to offer, such as fine restaurants, pubs, night clubs, the Liberty Mall, the city’s business hub, schools, hospitals, medical facilities and the famous Golden Horse Casino.

To date, Arlington Guest Lodge has hosted guests attending business conferences, social events such as the Royal Agricultural Show, Arts and Cars in the Park, Sporting events such as the Comrades and Duzi Marathons, Mountain and BMX Championships, cricket, soccer, netball, hockey and rugby fixtures.

Accommodation at Arlington Guest Lodge

Arlington Guest Lodge has nine en-suit bedrooms and can host a maximum of 35 guests in double or single beds. All rooms are air-conditioned, have tea/coffee facilities, a bar fridge, DSTV and Wi-Fi internet access. The rooms are non-smoking; however smoking areas have been designated.

Room 1 offers one double bed and two single beds and can sleep five guests including kids; while Room 2 has a double bed and three single beds. It’s a family unit with two inter-leading rooms, sharing a bathroom and can accommodate five guests.

You can choose Room 3, which has a King and one single bed or three single beds – it can accommodate three guests. Room 4 comes with a comfy double bed and can accommodate two.

Meanwhile, Room 5 has two single beds and can accommodate two people. Rooms 4 and 5 can be also be utilized as a family unit sharing a bathroom.

Guests can also make use of their Room 6, which has a King-size bed and two single beds or four single beds. It’s a self-catering unit that can accommodate four people.

Room 7 comes with a comfortable double bed for two people while Room 8 has either King-size beds or single beds for five people. The final offering, Room 9 comes with one or two King-size beds or four single beds. It’s another self-catering unit that can accommodate four people.

Note that children are allowed in all the accommodation offerings.

The Lodge offers a delectable full English or Continental breakfast to get you started on your day. Because there are plenty of fine restaurants nearby, Dinner is only available on request.

Facilities at Arlington Guest Lodge

The Lodge has a beautiful pool area that is situated in a tranquil garden. For your added peace of mind, there is secure parking with automated access.

A shuttle service from King Shaka and Pietermaritzburg Airports can be arranged on request. Laundry services are also available on request for a fee.

Activities and things to do in Pietermaritzburg

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important. 

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table. 

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.
