Air France Introduces a New Sofitel MY BED Mattress Pad in its Long-Haul Business Cabin

Air France continues to upgrade its long-haul Business cabin offer. The company has announced a new partnership with Sofitel, the Accor group’s luxury hospitality brand, to introduce mattress pads on every long-haul Business class seat. These mattress pads will be rolled out progressively on all the airline’s long-haul flights, including South African routes, starting in July 2025, ensuring optimal comfort throughout the journey, both day and night.

To design this mattress pad, Air France has partnered with Sofitel MY BED, Sofitel’s top-of-the-line bedding collection, universally recognized for its expertise and outstanding comfort. The two brands are committed to elegantly showcasing French craftsmanship, promising customers restful nights in plush seats as they recline to become fully flat.

A mattress pad for total comfort

Especially created for the airline’s Business class customers, this mattress pad has been carefully crafted and designed to make passengers feel like they’re floating on a cloud. It can be rolled out on the seat for an extra layer of comfort, creating a true cocoon of well-being that offers the ideal conditions for relaxation from takeoff to landing, and in any seat position.

Placed on each seat before boarding, alongside a pillow, blanket, and slippers, the mattress pad features a shade of grey—one of the signature colours of the Business cabin. It seamlessly blends with the cabin’s overall design and comfort elements, preserving the refined and elegant ambiance on board.

Easy to use, simply position the fitted end of the mattress pad over the seat headrest, and smooth it down against the backrest and seat cushion. The mattress pad has carefully positioned notches that adapt to all Business seats and seat belts across all aircraft types (Boeing 777, Boeing 787, Airbus A330, Airbus A350). It can be used during the different flight phases, from takeoff to landing, in complete safety. After each flight, it is carefully cleaned and repackaged, for maximum hygiene.

This new accessory will be progressively rolled out on board starting in July 2025. By the end of the year, it will be available on all the airline’s long-haul flights*, regardless of departure time or flight duration, ensuring absolute comfort both day and night.

“We are delighted to join forces with the expertise of Sofitel MY BED, an exceptional partner, to continue making Business cabin travel a true haven of well-being in the sky,” said Fabien Pelous, SVP Customer Experience at Air France. “The introduction of a new mattress pad will further enhance the comfort offered on board, ensuring even more restful nights before arrival at destination, as well as greater relaxation during daytime flights.”

“Sleep has always been a cornerstone of the Sofitel experience,” added Xavier Royaux, Chief Marketing Officer of Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery & Emblems“With the creation of Sofitel MY BED in 2003, Sofitel has offered an unrivalled quality of rest, based on deep expertise and true manufacturing craftsmanship. Today, thanks to our partnership with Air France, we are delighted to extend this experience to the skies, bringing each traveller unique comfort and softness for a truly restorative sleep.”

The Air France Business cabin, an exceptional French-style travel experience

In the Business cabin, Air France offers seats that transform into fully flat beds measuring almost two meters long, with direct aisle access**. The new seats, available on a selection of Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A350 aircraft, offer optimum privacy. A new sliding door makes for a truly private space, secluded from the rest of the cabin. When travelling with a companion, the seats in the middle of the cabin are equipped with a central partition that can easily be lowered, providing plenty of space to enjoy the journey together. The seat also features a large, anti-glare 4K HD screen, noise-reducing headphones, a Bluetooth connection for personal headphones, and several electric sockets. A Wi-Fi connection allows passengers to stay connected throughout the flight.

As passengers take their seat, they are greeted by a backlit winged seahorse, Air France’s historic symbol that embodies the airline’s rich history. Inside the seat, the upholstery gives a feeling of comfort and privacy. Made from wool, brushed aluminium and full-grain French leather, Air France has opted for premium, soft and natural materials. Each seat is embroidered with the airline’s trademark red accent symbol. With comfort essentials, cuisine from Michelin-starred chefs, carefully selected wines and champagnes and a restful night’s sleep, travelling in the Business cabin is an exceptional experience.

About us

Actually, Home Food and Travel offers a lot more than just reviews of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.  We also visit great destinations, receive advice from interior designers and stop to smell the roses and taste the coffee.

Our team of journalists are seasoned travels and love visiting the myriad of exciting places around South Africa.  Whether it is off the beaten track or in the heart of the top attractions of the country, we’ll be there,

Home Food and Travel advice on finding the right accommodation

So what is the right accommodation?  Well more often than not, it’s your travel budget that dictates the type of accommodation that you choose.

Expensive is not always better.  Our team at Home Food and Travel will tell you that they have camped in areas with limited ablutions and had a wonderful holiday.  They have also spent a night in a five star hotel only to be disappointed because their expectations exceeded the experience.

The reason for your travels will also affect your choice.  A business trip requires different amenities to a beach holiday.

Our articles, reviews and experiences can certainly help you make your decision.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table.

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.

On the road to great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities

If you’re driving, be safe and make use of all the wonderful farm stalls that populate South Africa’s open roads.

If you overhear somebody asking a lot of questions or see someone taking photos of empty bedrooms chances are it’s one of our Home Food and Travel team members.

We’re out looking or those great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.

See you on the road!
