Weylandts to Anchor Future Flagship Showroom in Sibaya Coastal Precinct

The Sibaya Coastal Precinct continues to attract leading national and global brands, with Weylandts confirming its decision to develop a flagship showroom within the rapidly expanding coastal node. The forthcoming showroom, which will form part of the precinct’s next phase of commercial development, represents another significant step in Sibaya’s evolution into a design-led, mixed-use destination.

For Devmco Group, the visionaries behind Sibaya’s integrated live-work-play environment, the commitment from one of South Africa’s most respected furniture and homeware brands reflects growing national confidence in the precinct’s long-term trajectory. Working alongside leading architectural firm Craft of Architecture (COA), whose design expertise has been instrumental in shaping the precinct’s architectural identity, Devmco continues to curate a cohesive and forward-thinking commercial environment.

“What we are witnessing is the deliberate formation of a design-driven commercial ecosystem,” says Brad Winstanley, Commercial Director at Devmco Group. “Well-known and loved national brands are recognising the opportunity to position themselves within a precinct that offers scale, infrastructure and a clear long-term vision. Weylandts’ decision to establish their flagship here strengthens our ambition of building a true design quarter within Sibaya, a curated cluster of premium brands that collectively shape the identity of the precinct.”

As Sibaya continues to expand across residential, commercial and lifestyle sectors, it is increasingly drawing brands that align with its architectural integrity and placemaking philosophy. The addition of Weylandts further reinforces the node’s positioning as a future-focused coastal city designed for enduring value and quality.

A Showroom Founded in Dialogue with Nature

Founded in dialogue with nature, the planned Weylandts showroom has been conceptualised by StudioLandt as a space designed in conversation with its environment. Rather than competing with KwaZulu-Natal’s lush and vibrant coastal landscape, the architecture is envisioned as a counterpoint offering a place to breathe, journey with and arrive.

Inspired by the textures, tones and rhythms of the surrounding region, locally abundant materials such as granite, basalt, concrete, sand, sea and sugarcane are set to be reinterpreted within the structure. These elements will celebrate the elemental beauty of the land while reinforcing Weylandts’ long-standing commitment to material authenticity and craftsmanship.

Darker, earthy tones are intended to ground the interior environment, while a motif of flowing water will thread through the space symbolising movement, renewal and the passage of time. In this architectural narrative, water becomes the connective tissue, linking material, structure and experience.

An Immersive Pavilion-Inspired Experience

Drawing on pavilion design principles and global case studies, the multi-level showroom is planned to invite exploration from multiple vantage points. Visitors will be guided through layered environments that gradually reveal craft, hue and design through immersive encounters.

The entrance will serve as a transitional threshold offering respite from the dense coastal humidity and allowing visitors to recalibrate before progressing into the showroom journey.

Designed to be experienced both chronologically and reflectively, the circulation path will encourage movement forward and return along the same narrative arc, reinforcing Weylandts’ belief that design is as much about experience as it is about form.

A Strategic Alignment of Vision

For Weylandts, the decision to commit to Sibaya reflects alignment with a precinct that prioritises architectural excellence, environmental sensitivity and long-term placemaking. “Sibaya represents thoughtful growth,” says Chris Weylandt, CEO of Weylandts. “Its connection to nature, its strong architectural identity and its vision for integrated coastal living resonate deeply with our philosophy. This flagship showroom will not simply be a retail environment it will be an experiential space that expresses our ongoing dialogue between material, craft and meaning.”

As Sibaya advances into its next phase of development, the precinct continues to attract brands seeking more than just retail space but strategic alignment within a carefully curated urban environment.

“Our objective has always been to create a coastal city with depth and character,” Winstanley adds. “By bringing together brands like Weylandts, alongside other respected national and global names, we are shaping a precinct where design, lifestyle and commercial investment intersect meaningfully. Each partnership strengthens Sibaya’s reputation as a destination built for longevity.”

Actually, Home Food and Travel offers a lot more than just reviews of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.  We also visit great destinations, receive advice from interior designers and stop to smell the roses and taste the coffee.

Our team of journalists are seasoned travels and love visiting the myriad of exciting places around South Africa.  Whether it is off the beaten track or in the heart of the top attractions of the country, we’ll be there,

Home Food and Travel advice on finding the right accommodation

So what is the right accommodation?  Well more often than not, it’s your travel budget that dictates the type of accommodation that you choose.

Expensive is not always better.  Our team at Home Food and Travel will tell you that they have camped in areas with limited ablutions and had a wonderful holiday.  They have also spent a night in a five star hotel only to be disappointed because their expectations exceeded the experience.

The reason for your travels will also affect your choice.  A business trip requires different amenities to a beach holiday.

Our articles, reviews and experiences can certainly help you make your decision.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table.

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.

On the road to great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities

If you’re driving, be safe and make use of all the wonderful farm stalls that populate South Africa’s open roads.

If you overhear somebody asking a lot of questions or see someone taking photos of empty bedrooms chances are it’s one of our Home Food and Travel team members.

We’re out looking or those great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.

See you on the road!
