Thali Thali Game Lodge allows guests to break free near Langebaan

Thali Thali Game Lodge

During a recent journey across the Western Cape I had the chance to spend a night at the Thali Thali Game Lodge near Langebaan and it was just what I needed. The seclusion, stillness and laidback feeling that the lodge has is the perfect anecdote for those seeking to break free and simply escape.

Their road is well-marked with a sign and is just before the Langebaan turnoff if you are driving up from Cape Town. My Polo was able to manage the dirt road which takes you to the gate; this is something I was personally glad about. We looked to our right as there were various specious of antelope and countless birds to view.

After a day of exploring the Overberg my friends and I were eager to enjoy some rest during our visit. As we arrived at reception, we were welcomed by Amalia and her team and we enjoyed a welcome drink, this was a lovely gesture for us weary travellers. We made our way to their viewing deck and seized the opportunity to unwind and soak in the wonderful views of the lodge. It had been quite a while since I had last visited a game lodge so it was a much needed breakaway for me personally.

After our thirsts were quenched, we were shown to our stay for the evening by Hanchen, we would be staying in their Farmhouse. Only a short drive’s distance from reception and we were at the wonderfully maintained property. It was a glimpse into the life from a bygone era.

We decided we had to braai during our stay and that is exactly what we did, it doesn’t get more authentic then quality time around a fire, in a game lodge, with close friends, in a historic farm stay.

My morning was spent on their porch simply enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, the buzz and chatter of the birds accompanying me as I read and drank my morning coffee.

We gently made our way through to the restaurant/reception area again as it was time for breakfast. As the weather was superb we made the logical decision to sit outside again. We had the choice of all of their breakfasts on their menu, after some internal deliberation I chose a salmon waffle simply because it sounded intriguing.

I was delighted at my choice as the waffle was extremely tasty and honestly quite beautiful to look at, in keeping with the beauty of the bushveld which we were looking at. After we had enjoyed our hearty breakfasts and finished our drinks it was time to say goodbye to the Thali Thali team.

Although our stay was brief, it was certainly one to live long in the memory.

Accommodation at Thali Thali Game Lodge

Thali Thali is a 3 star rated game lodge near Langebaan in the Western Cape. Their accommodation options include Self-Catering Chalets, Glamping Tents and their Farmhouse.

My stay in the self-catering Farmhouse was superb. It came fully equipped with all the cutlery and crockery one would need and we made full use of their indoor braai area. Their living room is a great place to create memories with friends and family, whilst their braai facilities will always gather everyone together in typical South African style.

The Farmhouse consists of four bedrooms and two bathrooms, my room was an en-suite. Their sunken bathtub was a standout feature, whilst the rooms themselves were spacious and cozy. This accommodation option is perfect for large families or for groups of friends seeking an escape from city life.

The Self-Catering Chalets are perfect spaces for families of up to four people. These cottages have been wonderfully transformed into quaint units. They consist of double bedroom chalets and two bedroom chalets.

Thali Thali Game Lodge’s Glamping Tents offer guests the chance to enjoy all the comforts of home, whilst spending your time in the bushveld. These are suitable for guests seeking to enjoy nature in style and in comfort.

Activities at Thali Thali

Thali Thali’s offerings for guests consist of game drives and archery lessons. The first being somewhat of an obvious choice considering the property, I still stand by the fact that going on a game drive should still be seen as an essential activity for both locals and internationals alike, the prospect of seeing their wildlife in their natural environment should always be enjoyed.

Archery is something I have only tried out once before and unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to do during my visit, however the fact that they offer this to guests is exciting and goes against the norm to a degree.

Weddings and conferences can be hosted at Thali Thali Game Lodge whilst their restaurant and bar area allow guests to enjoy quality food during their visit.

Thali Thali Game Lodge is located at Zoutekuylen Farm, R27, Langebaan. Here is their location on Google Maps. For bookings, call +27 (0) 82 372 8637 or email info@thalithali.co.za, visit them online at www.thalithali.co.za today. Also follow them on Facebook HERE.

Home Food and Travel advice on finding the right accommodation

So what is the right accommodation?  Well more often than not, it’s your travel budget that dictates the type of accommodation that you choose.

Expensive is not always better.  Our team at Home Food and Travel will tell you that they have camped in areas with limited ablutions and had a wonderful holiday.  They have also spent a night in a five star hotel only to be disappointed because their expectations exceeded the experience.

The reason for your travels will also affect your choice.  A business trip requires different amenities to a beach holiday.

Our articles, reviews and experiences can certainly help you make your decision.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table.

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.

On the road to great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities

If you’re driving, be safe and make use of all the wonderful farm stalls that populate South Africa’s open roads.

If you overhear somebody asking a lot of questions or see someone taking photos of empty bedrooms chances are it’s one of our Home Food and Travel team members.

We’re out looking or those great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.

See you on the road!
