Revamped, Restored and Redecorated-your Favourite Places to Stay at South of Africa in Limpopo

South of Africa

Waterberg-based hotel group South of Africa had you in mind when making their accommodation better than ever. Their properties in the Bela Bela and Modimolle area have recently undergone an extensive refurbishment and are now ready to greet visitors travelling to Gauteng’s neighbouring province.

The South of Africa portfolio of properties includes the Elephant Springs Hotel, the Elephant Springs Apartments, Grafiti, an intimate Boutique Hotel, and the Shangri-La Country Hotel & Spa.

Elephant Springs Apartments

The Elephant Springs Apartments have been completely transformed with a Greek inspired theme.  The redone units boast newly tiled floors, revamped bathrooms with showers, modern furniture and upgraded kitchens for self-catering travellers.  Each unit also has a Smart TV with complimentary Netflix, ShowMax and YouTube.  Free Wi-Fi is available in all of the apartments too!

What’s more, additional privacy for occupants of the ground floor units has been added by separating patio walls.  Each patio with built in seating also has its own private braai.  All balcony units now have their own numbered braai space next to the pool.  This, too, has been renovated and a beautiful pergola has just been added for extra charm.  There are plans to create a children’s play area in the courtyard while additional toilet facilities have been added to this space.

National Braai Day in September has been earmarked for a big braai to launch the new look in collaboration with Henri Cognac.

Elephant Springs Hotel

The Elephant Springs Hotel lies next door to the Elephant Springs Apartments and serves as a great all-round hotel in Bela Bela. This hotel has 54 air-conditioned rooms, each including an en-suite bathroom.  Family Rooms, Twin Rooms and Pool Facing Rooms are available.

Their hotel courtyard has been given a facelift with the renovation of the swimming pool which is popular amongst travellers who enjoy the mild climate of Bela Bela all year round.  The onsite conference facilities have been updated and enlarged to welcome bigger groups.

Elephant Springs Hotel & Apartments are located on 31 Sutter Road, Bela Bela.

Shangri-La Country Hotel & Spa

Shangri-La Country Hotel & Spa is renovating on a room by room basis, with carpets being replaced by tiled floors and bathrooms upgraded.  The swimming pool area has been further enhanced with a clever black and white checkered floor surrounding the country style pool, as well as a pergola to provide shade or escape from summer rains.  This tropical retreat in the Waterberg reflects elegance whilst also encompassing a real sense of paradise, which makes the popular pool area the perfect place to soak up the sun.

The spacious breakfast room was upgraded with a new look and a new name – The Moroccan Room.  This airy and colourful space flows into the outdoor wooden deck and Chimes Square patio ideal for outdoor dining.  There are plans to expand the conference facilities later in the year.

Shangri-La Country Hotel & Spa is located on the Eersbewoon Road between Bela Bela and Modimolle.

Grafiti

Grafiti is a brand new boutique hotel in Bela Bela. It has seven luxury en-suite, individually decorated rooms, each with a private balcony or patio.  The bedrooms offer comforts such as complimentary WiFi, Smart TVs with Netflix, ShowMax and YouTube, as well as a coffee maker and barfridge.

The boutique hotel is a feast for the eyes with its flamboyant and tasteful décor and modern art. It has a magnificent dining and lounge area, a sparkling pool and a fifty-seater conference venue.  The property is set to expand next year with extra suites and more on site facilities.

Grafiti is located at 2 Flamboyant Rd, Bela Bela.

Actually, Home Food and Travel offers a lot more than just reviews of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.  We also visit great destinations, receive advice from interior designers and stop to smell the roses and taste the coffee.

Our team of journalists are seasoned travels and love visiting the myriad of exciting places around South Africa.  Whether it is off the beaten track or in the heart of the top attractions of the country, we’ll be there,

Home Food and Travel advice on finding the right accommodation

So what is the right accommodation?  Well more often than not, it’s your travel budget that dictates the type of accommodation that you choose.

Expensive is not always better.  Our team at Home Food and Travel will tell you that they have camped in areas with limited ablutions and had a wonderful holiday.  They have also spent a night in a five star hotel only to be disappointed because their expectations exceeded the experience.

The reason for your travels will also affect your choice.  A business trip requires different amenities to a beach holiday.

Our articles, reviews and experiences can certainly help you make your decision.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table.

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.

On the road to great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities

If you’re driving, be safe and make use of all the wonderful farm stalls that populate South Africa’s open roads.

If you overhear somebody asking a lot of questions or see someone taking photos of empty bedrooms chances are it’s one of our Home Food and Travel team members.

We’re out looking or those great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.

See you on the road!
