Panthera Africa is a non-profit, award winning, internationally recognised, big cat sanctuary in Stanford, Western Cape. They are a true sanctuary which means there are no breeding, no trading and no human interaction.
They offer a forever home to 25 big and small cats that were rescued from exploitation and abuse, including cub petting, over-breeding, hunting and bone trade, pets in private households and circuses.
When visitors hear the stories of what their big cats have been through, they are determined to support animal welfare.
What does Panthera Africa offer?
Panthera offers educational visits to the public where they can see the animals and hear their inspiring stories. Tourists are unaware that when they participate in activities such as cub petting, walking with lions and similar activities, thus they are propping up an exploitative cycle of breeding, trading, and abusive practices.
Panthera Africa also offers volunteer opportunities for those who would like to do some good and help the big cats. During their stay volunteers are offered an animal communication course, which helps them understand the animals even better. The volunteer experience is a wonderful opportunity for people to experience being in the animal’s presence and the uplifting and transformative effect that has.
For the month of May, we are having a Local is Lekker 50% discount on our family Educational Visits. Pre-booking is required as this is a guided visit, as are all our visits and suitable for the entire family. This is to say thank you to our local South Africans who have been visiting our sanctuary and supporting us when all the international visitors were unable to visit.
Less than 2 hours’ drive from Cape Town and part of the popular Garden Route, their two and four-legged pride members look forward to your visit.
