Old World Charm at Foxwood House, a Country Estate in the City

Foxwood House, situated in the leafy tree-lined streets of Houghton Estate, dates back to 1924, and is one of the oldest houses in this part of Johannesburg.

Stylish and unpretentious, Foxwood House, filled with old world charm and antiques, is a haven of peace and tranquillity.

The large grounds are surrounded by ancient trees and lush gardens and romantic corners. A perfect place for an evening stroll as you listen to the birds and watch the ducks and swans glide by on the lily pond.

A Weekend Treat at Foxwood Theatre

Foxwood House boasts a small Bohemian theatre venue which is in fact a landmark on the Johannesburg arts scene. Live musicals, comedy and performance acts are hosted over weekends. This is also an excellent venue for plays and corporate presentations.

An Ideal Location for a Conference

Foxwood House is located close to the M1 freeway which connects Johannesburg and Pretoria. It is a few minutes from the major business districts of Rosebank, Sandton and the Johannesburg CBD.

Conference facilities, with state-of-the-art equipment, are available for delegates from 8 to 100 in various venues and configurations.

Foxwood Conference Centre and the Gatehouse are air conditioned with doors and windows that open directly on to the gardens. Large open fire places in the winter months create a cosy atmosphere.

Luxury Accommodation at Foxwood House

There are twelve luxury suites ranging from charming stable suites to multi-roomed suites. Each suite has its own distinctive character, name and style.

Most have a private entrance with a private patio or garden area. All have luxurious period furnishings, air conditioners, DSTV and an under counter fridge.

A particular delight is the quirky 1920’s Hollywood style pink bathroom in the John Oates suite. This suite also has its own library.

Breakfast is served in the Pool Room and dinner and lunch in the dining room of the old manor house.

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance. Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion. However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review. We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.
