Laid Back Elegance at The Ghibli Pool Bar in Cape Town

Situated on the second-floor roof top of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cape Town, The Ghibli Pool Bar is great place for lunch or dinner.

This stylish inner city roof top bar and restaurant offers a pool terrace and a New York kind of city vibrancy. It’s a great place to bask in the sun or relax in the shade with a meal, and take in the sights and sound of the city around you.

Modern finishes and furnishings in tones of green, grey, white, brass and wood give it a clean cut and contemporary look and a sense of style and comfort, with a background of soothing lounge music.

The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner, from 11am to 10.30pm and at the weekends you can enjoy live music as you sip exotic cocktails and nibble on delicious snacks.

The restaurant serves delectable light food offerings as well as hearty main meals.

Their starters consist of Cape Malay butternut and lentil soup, Damion’s grilled chicken salad, Cajun spiced calamari strips and other tasty dishes.

The Ghibli Bar’s main menu is quite extensive and includes sticky pork ribs, burgers, slow roasted lamb shank, classic butter chicken, nachos, steaks, to name but a few.

The dessert menu includes the likes of hazelnut mousse, rocky road chocolate brownies, vanilla & red velvet cheesecake, death by chocolate and more.

The Ghibli Pool Bar and Terrace offers an extensive selection of cocktails, plus all the standard beverages and a wine list that includes imported champagne and wines, as well as the best local wines.

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance. Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion. However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review. We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.
