In October of 1931, the Humewood Golf Club held its official opening, not realizing that it would be cementing itself into golfing history. Within three years of its opening, it hosted the SA Amateur and SA Opens, the first of many to come. With a course renowned for its layout and challenging terrain, the club has hosted many famous players, such as the late Bobby Locke, who said the course was one of the best in South Africa. Rated as the 15th best golf course in South Africa and placing 97th in the world, the course at the Humewood Golf Club was specially designed by Major S.V. Hotchkin. With its genuine seaside links, the course is perfectly manicured with wide fairways, fast greens, and thick coastal bush. Local wildlife has also made the course home, including plovers, commonly known as Kiewiets.
This 18-hole, 72-par course has hosted ten South African Amateur Championships and the South African Open on five occasions. While players are always welcome at the club, they offer an exclusive membership option. With fees structured to age, each option comes with a range of added benefits, including discounts on food and beverages and full use of their lounge for functions.
In addition to teeing off on the greens, the club boasts a range of facilities to ensure a perfect day at the course, from caddy and golf cart hire, practice facilities, lessons with professional instructors for adults and juniors, dining, and a locker room.
