Gooderson Knysna Chalets was the perfect base for exploring the Garden Route

Gooderson Knysna Chalets

For years, I longed to take a holiday and explore the beautiful Garden Route. I was recently fortunate to do just that when I stayed at the amazing Gooderson Knysna Chalets in Knysna.

With so many outdoor activities, stunning beaches and luxury accommodation, it is no wonder why the Garden Route is a popular holiday destination for both locals and international visitors. Both my friends and I agreed that the Gooderson Knysna Chalets was the ideal base for us to fully explore this region and its offerings.

The resort is located just outside Knysna, in an area known as Belvidere/Brenton on Sea. We were delighted to have enjoyed some great outdoor activities before checking in, but we were delighted to be able to settle in and unwind.

I noticed that the establishment had enough seclusion from the hustle and bustle of many holiday towns, but we were still close enough to Knysna for when we wanted to pop in for whatever reason.

We were greeted by their friendly receptionist, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was both pleasant and memorable. His friendly and helpful attitude was greatly appreciated.

My Garden Route holiday is something that I will remember for a very long time and our stay at the Gooderson Knysna Chalets will forever be synonymous with this visit.

Accommodation at the Gooderson Knysna Chalets

We enjoyed our stay in one of their wooden chalets. Our accommodation had everything one would expect from a self-catering stay.

I noticed the fact that the owners opted to rather embrace the natural environment, instead of trying to subdue it. Our chalet was built around a beautiful Milkwood tree. As a lover of the natural environment, this certainly put a smile on my face.

The joyful sound of birds chirping in the mornings can only be described as blissful. The abundance and variety of bird life in the area makes it ideal for any nature and bird lovers. We even caught a glimpse of the renowned Knysna Loerie!

The accommodation offering at the resort consists of four sleeper chalets, which include a main bedroom, sleeper couch and boasting a full bathroom with a bath and shower.

The veranda area is ideal should you wish to enjoy a morning coffee or meal whilst enjoying the surrounding environment

The kitchenette is perfect for a group of travellers as there were sufficient appliances, seating areas as well as tea and coffee stations. The kitchen comes equipped with a fridge/freezer, stove, microwave as well as cutlery and cooking utensils.

The lounge area has a television with a variety of DStv channels. The couches are ideal should you be wishing to enjoy an evening in, amongst friends and family.

The Gooderson Knysna Chalets is also an ideal destination for larger groups of friends and family, as there are 28 chalets which can be rented out. The units maintain a level of privacy, which is always comforting when going on holiday.

Once our time had arrived for us to depart, we left feeling well looked after and looking forward to a return visit in the future. Our stay was as peaceful and tranquil as the natural environment that surrounded us.

The facilities that can be enjoyed on the premises include a large swimming pool, slide, Jacuzzi, games room, kiddies’ playground, jumping castle, outdoor chess set and communal braai area.

“What an amazing holiday! The highlight of this journey was definitely the accommodation. From feeding the little birds to the late night jacuzzi and all the memories we had in the games room. The owners gave us a warm welcome every morning and shared our daily experiences with us in the evenings! I’ll definitely visit them again in the future” wrote Nadine on their TripAdvisor page.

Actually, Home Food and Travel offers a lot more than just reviews of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.  We also visit great destinations, receive advice from interior designers and stop to smell the roses and taste the coffee.

Home Food and Travel advice on finding the right accommodation

So what is the right accommodation?  Well more often than not, it’s your travel budget that dictates the type of accommodation that you choose.

Expensive is not always better.  Our team at Home Food and Travel will tell you that they have camped in areas with limited ablutions and had a wonderful holiday.  They have also spent a night in a five star hotel only to be disappointed because their expectations exceeded the experience.

The reason for your travels will also affect your choice.  A business trip requires different amenities to a beach holiday.

Our articles, reviews and experiences can certainly help you make your decision.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table.

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.

On the road to great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities

If you’re driving, be safe and make use of all the wonderful farm stalls that populate South Africa’s open roads.

If you overhear somebody asking a lot of questions or see someone taking photos of empty bedrooms chances are it’s one of our Home Food and Travel team members.

We’re out looking or those great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.

See you on the road!
