During my recent trip to Cape Town, I had the opportunity to eat-out at the Village Place Café in Sunningdale, in the Northern Suburbs. I can certainly say that I enjoyed everything about this eatery and I look forward to my next visit.
The Village Place Café is located in the West Coast Village Mall -making it the perfect spot for those wanting a break and a good meal in the midst of their shopping or even on outings.
Thanks to their amazing meals and all-round excellent service, it’s no wonder why they have become a favourite with locals and visitors alike.
Having opened doors during the pandemic, they are also very conscious about keeping you safe. So expect clean and sanitised facilities!
Family Friendly Facilities at the Village Place Café
Walking through the shopping centre, I noticed the café’s close proximity to a kids’ play area. I would expect a number of children begging their parents to spend some time playing with friends, whilst their parents grab something to eat.
The establishment’s outdoor area allows for parents to keep an eye on their little ones as they explore this play area.
Arriving at the Village Place Café for lunch with some of my friends, we were taken to our table by our friendly waitress. Based on my experience, there is nothing better than a friendly face along with a smile when it comes to service!
The setting had a warm feel to it, whilst its décor was rustic in nature. I was pleasantly surprised to see how busy the café was, considering that they are a new restaurant in Sunningdale.
An Impressive Menu
Our waitress brought us our menus and I was impressed by the variety of good food on offer at the Village Place Café. The menu consisted of breakfasts, sandwiches, wraps, steaks, burgers and salads to name, but a few. They certainly took their time to come up with meals that cater for different tastes and age groups.
With so much on offer, I asked our waitress for recommendations based on some of their popular meals. Upon her advice; I chose a Ribeye Steak, which is served with a poached egg and chips. I paired this with a glass of Diemersdal Merlot.
Whilst we waited for our meals, we took some to just go through the café. I noticed that they also had a selection of homemade jams and various other preservatives. The Village Place Café can be considered a combination of a coffee shop, a restaurant as well as to an extent, a farm market based on their offerings.
When our food arrived, we all noted the generous portions as well as how the kitchen had made every effort on presentation. But could our meals pass the taste test? I can happily confirm that this is where the Village Place Café comes into its own.
My Ribeye was cooked perfectly and the accompaniments blended so well to create a tasty meal. My friends, who had all ordered different meals, also had wonderful things to say about their food.
Why make the Village Place Cafe your go to restaurant?
I can say my stop-over at the Village Place Café was nothing short of a memorable experience. They are still a relatively new eatery, but I can only see them going from strength to strength.
This is also because the owner and Head Chef, Barend Greyling, is well-travelled with many years of experience in top international kitchens. Having previously worked in both England and in China, he uses his experience from these nations as his inspiration for amazing meals – and when you dig into your portion, you can tell.
Chef Greyling also only uses the best and freshest local ingredients for the Village Place Café’s amazing meals.
Everything comes together for a value for money experience that you ca never find anywhere else. Whether it be for a quick coffee with friends, or a weekend lunch with family, the Village Place Café is a treat!
