Get Away to a Sub Tropical Paradise at Umtamvuna River Lodge

Set in sub-tropical gardens on the banks of a river, Umtamvuna River Lodge at Port Edward, is the perfect destination for a family holiday.

Guests are spoilt for choice with things to do. The gardens and private beach make a perfect playground and place for children to explore.

A favourite with guests is the skate ramp – great for board riding parents and children, as well as South Africa’s only 2 tower cable wakeboard system (The owner is a retired Red Bull professional wakeboarder!)

There are speed boat rides up the river, stand up paddle boarding, tube rides, , or a leisurely boat cruise up the river on their thirty-one-foot pontoon boat.

Other nearby attractions include a variety of golf courses to choose from, mountain bike trails, hiking trails, good surf spots, a water park and a casino.

If relaxing is your thing, then a great place to relax with a book on a hammock under the palm trees by the banks of the river, or laze on the pool terrace or at the cocktail bar.

Weddings at Umtamvuna River Lodge

The Lodge offers a beautiful romantic setting with nature as a background, and a year-round warm climate, for a truly magical wedding.

The private beach under the tropical palm trees, the lawns and gardens, the wooden deck against the breath-taking cliff face overlooking the river, are all perfect choices for the ceremony.

You may celebrate your wedding under the stars, or in the reception area which opens onto a weather proof wooden deck. You will have exclusive use of the venue for the day and their wedding planner will assist you and take care of all the personal details to make your day perfect.

Accommodation at Umtamvuna River Lodge

Accommodation includes ensuite rooms with king size or twin beds, a sofa/sleeper couch, tea/coffee facilities, flat screen TV, fan, air conditioning, a private deck and WIFI.

There is also a spacious 2 bedroom (both en-suite) family suite if you wanting a little privacy from your kids.

The Lodge is wheel chair accessible and breakfast and dinners are available.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance. Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion. However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review. We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience? The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table.

Well that’s our theory anyway. It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced. However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience. In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe. It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.
