One of the most beautiful areas in South Africa is where the highveld transitions into the lowveld. The escarpment is simply beautiful and affords spectacular views, cascading rivers and a variety of vegetation which in turn attracts a wide variety of animals and birds.
Located just under three hours from Johannesburg, between Carolina and Machadodorp, Komati Gorge Lodge is set in 2500 hectares of scenic thorn bushveld and lush highveld grasslands in this transition area.
Nestled on the banks of the Komati River at the base of a miniature Grand Canyon, the lodge is an ideal escape for nature enthusiasts seeking tranquillity and adventure.
The lodge offers a variety of amenities including a refreshing splash pool, a lapa, and a four-star restaurant. Guests can relax in a cozy lounge complete with a log fireplace and Wi-Fi access, or enjoy the serene views of the river from the veranda. Please note, however, that there is no cell phone reception at the lodge, allowing guests to truly disconnect.
Dining at Komati Gorge Lodge is a treat in itself. The restaurant serves hearty breakfasts, light lunches, and delicious dinners. A fully stocked bar is also available, featuring a TV for guests who want to catch major sporting events. The menu consists of classic South African cuisine, with Halaal options available and the team can also cater for special dietary requirements in advance.
Spa treatments are offered, but reservations are required in advance.
