A visit to Jandreart Studio on Thesen Island in Knysna is highly recommended. This is a working studio where you will be fortunate enough to meet the artist, Jan Raats himself, at work.

Jan has won numerous awards and has exhibited nationally and internationally. His paintings are with collectors all over the world.

Jan’s passion and enthusiasm for his work is contagious. A warm and generous person, he will be happy to stop and explain his current project or to talk you through the other pieces on display.

He engages with visitors, provides demonstrations, and give advice to artists and collectors.

Artwork at Jandreart Studio

Jan’s unique style of painting is to use only his fingers to create his vibrant impressionistic images.

His work covers a range of styles and subject matter. He is widely travelled and many of his paintings reflect his impressions of the countries he has visited.

Jan’s latest body of work involves hand cutting butterfly shapes from plastic bottles. Using a leaf, he delicately paints colours on the back of the butterflies, and then glues them onto a board to create a picture of their own.
