BREAKFAST: There is a Mugg & Bean at the Victory Park Shopping.

CYCLING: Great cycle trail in Delta Park and Braamfontein Spruit, all within walking distance.

CELLPHONE NETWORKS: For a local SIM card, please ask Jamie for a proof of residence.

GROCERIES: We supply basics like toilet paper, dishwashing liquid etc for short-term guests.

Longer-term tenants need to provide their own.

Woolworths and Pick ‘n Pay is at the Victory Park Shopping Centre.

GARDEN & FACILITIES: Garden, swimming pool and braai facilities are available for all our guests. As this is a communal area, please respect others around you.

HEATERS: There are wall heaters in all the cottages. Please remember to switch it off before leaving.

NOISE: As there are other guests and neighbours, please keep noise to a minimum and respect those around you.

PARKING: Parking is available for guests only. For safety and security reasons, all non-residents to kindly park outside please. Visitors are to leave by 10:30 pm and are not permitted to stay over.

PETS

We have two dogs, Bella, and Titan, they are very friendly, love to play and do not run out of the gate. However, when opening the gate, please watch out for people walking their dogs, as this may tempt our dogs to run out. We also have four cats: Nikita, Chaplin, Misty, and Chloe. Please do not feed the animals and do not let them spend the night inside.

PLACES OF WORSHIP: There are various places of worship around Moonflower Cottages; please check online for your nearest one.

POLICE: Nationwide Emergency Response – 10111, Linden Police Station, 011 888 9299, 30 Boundary Road, Linden.

PRINTING/PHOTOCOPIES/PARCELS: Postnet is at the Victory Park Shopping Centre.

PUBLIC AREAS: Please keep it clean. You have use of the garden by the pool, the pool and braai area. Please do not use our private garden in the front of our house.

QUAINT: Parkhurst and Linden are two quaint neighbouring suburbs, with lovely shops and restaurants.

QUERIES: Should you have any queries, please contact reception.

REMOTES: Remotes for the gate are provided at check-in. The gate closes automatically after 20 seconds, although we urge you to please close the gate with the remote when you have entered or left the property, for the safety and security of everyone on the premises.

REPAIRS: As this is ongoing, if anything is not working or broken, please advise reception.

RESTAURANTS: There are several restaurants close to Moonflower Cottages: Linden 4th Avenue, Greenside Gleneagles Road and Parkhurst 4th Avenue & surrounding areas.

SWIMMING: Swimming is at your own risk. The average water temperature °C in Summer, 22 – 25 °C. Please ask reception for suitable swimming towels, as we would prefer it if you do not use the white bathroom towels.

SAFETY AND SECURITY: As safety and security is important, you are advised to

take the same precautions you would take in any big city throughout the world

SPA/BEAUTY PROFESSIONALS/SALONS: We have a beauty salon right next door to Moonflower – 011 888 6262, 8 Yaron Avenue, Victory Park, Randburg.

SAFARI: There are Game Lodges in less than 3 hours from Johannesburg, Waterberg, Pilanesberg and Kruger National Park. Please check online for information.

T

TV: We have the following channels in the cottages: SABC 1, 2 & 3, MNET 103, and DStv Movie/Sport Channel. If you wish to watch a sporting game, please advise and we will change the channel for you.

TIME ZONE: GMT + 2 hours

TOWELS: Towels are provided in the cottages. If you require additional towels, please ask reception.

TRANSFERS/TRANSPORTATION/TAXIS: Uber is the best and safest way to get around. If you require our driver, Shepard, please contact reception to arrange.

GARBAGE: There are bins located behind the garage if required.

UBER EATS: Please download the app for restaurants and menus. Make sure to give them the correct address and cell number to call when they are at the gate and look out for your delivery.

UBER: For safe and reliable transportation, we suggest using Uber.

UV RAYS: Johannesburg sun is harsh. Please remember to use sunblock SPF 20+ and take a hat and water with you on tours and excursions.

VALUABLES: Please make sure that your valuables are not left unattended.

VICTORY PARK SHOPPING CENTRE OPENING HOURS: We have various stores there, opening times at 9am – 6pm, however Woolworths open till 8 weekdays.

VISITORS: Parking is available for guests only. For safety and security reasons, please let us know if you are expecting visitors. All non-resident visitors to kindly park outside. Visitors are to leave by 10:30 pm, please, and are not permitted to stay over.

WALKING: Enjoyable walks in Delta Park and Braamfontein Spruit, all within walking distance.

WATER: Water from the taps is safe to drink; please do not waste water.

WEATHER: We have attached the average weather climate and rainfall for your reference.

So what is the right accommodation?  Well more often than not, it’s your travel budget that dictates the type of accommodation that you choose. 

Expensive is not always better.  Our team at Home Food and Travel will tell you that they have camped in areas with limited ablutions and had a wonderful holiday.  They have also spent a night in a five star hotel only to be disappointed because their expectations exceeded the experience.

The reason for your travels will also affect your choice.  A business trip requires different amenities to a beach holiday.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important. 

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table. 

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.
