Having recently undergone extensive alterations, the Music Kitchen is all set to host a fantastic line-up of some of South Africa’s best performing artists this holiday season.
Ian Mitchell, owner of Music Kitchen says, “Although we have a wide variety of musical styles appearing on our stage, the common factor is our strict criteria regarding the quality of the performances, and the quality of our sound”.
As one would expect of a venue such as this, the stage is the focal point and every care is taken to ensure that the musicians are able to perform at their best. Indeed, Ian has invested heavily in stage and sound quality, and it shows:
Not only are audiences having a good time, but S.A.’s top musicians are keen to play there.
This December, The Music Kitchen has outdone itself with a line-up of 27 shows. Standout acts include Wonderboom, Koos Kombuis, Albert Frost, Arno Carstens, Radio Kalahari Orkes, and other greats.
Top local acts are also in the line-up; Wayne Kallis, The Brothers, and Kevin Abraham’s “Folkify!” ensemble, to name a few.
There are also party events aplenty, such as the Facemelt Festival and the New Year’s Bash Decades Party.
Many of these shows are expected to be sold out so it is essential to book well in advance for the shows you hope to attend. Unless you’re very lucky, you might be disappointed if you rock up at the door and expect to get a seat.
Music Kitchen, as their name implies, is also a restaurant.
The menu is uncomplicated, but tasty, hearty and great value for money. You can expect various burgers, ribs, snack baskets, nachos and salads, plus various house specials. The bar is well stocked and the wine list varied.
Over the years, many of us have watched The Music Kitchen evolve as we attended the many shows there. Today, The Music Kitchen is achieving the status of a local performance treasure; a place where you can enjoy a great show, and, choose from a variety of performances that vary from “sit down and Listen” to “get up and dance”’ and everything in between.
