A familiar Scottburgh landmark is entering an exciting new chapter! Crocworld Conservation Centre is being relaunched as Crocworld Adventure & Conservation Centre as it further embraces its position as a family-focused outdoor adventure destination with conservation at its heart.
“We’re very excited to announce a host of new changes at Crocworld, some of which have already been implemented, with more to come!” says Susan Badat, Manager of Crocworld Adventure & Conservation Centre. “Crocworld has been part of Scottburgh for more than 40 years, and while our commitment to wildlife conservation and education remains at the heart of what we do, we continue to evolve with our community and our visitors.”
Crocworld has been part of the KZN South Coast since 1985 – the year the famous Henry the Nile crocodile joined the team. Over the years, the centre has seen a significant shift towards eco-conservation and community education. This new chapter retains conservation at the heart, while embracing even more adventure and eco-education activities for all ages.
“The vision is to position Crocworld as a leading family adventure and conservation park,” says Badat. “This is going to be a space for residents and visitors to connect with nature, to enjoy quality time spent outdoors keeping healthy and having fun, all the while raising funds for the ongoing conservation work being done at Crocworld.”
1. A growing network of adventure trails
For those who prefer to explore on foot or by bike, the growing Crocworld Adventure Trails are becoming an increasingly important part of the destination.
The trail network starts at Crocworld and connects into the broader Renishaw Coastal Precinct and surrounding areas, with more than 100km of trails developed and maintained through collaboration with local partners and sporting clubs.
Routes currently available from Crocworld include 5km, 10km, 20km and 40km options, incorporating flowing sections, technical features, varied terrain and coastal and countryside scenery.
2. New biking shop at the centre
The trails are being developed by the team at Badger’s Cycling and Sports Centre (CSC), which has also brought its cycling expertise directly to the Crocworld entrance.
The on-site bike shop offers boutique bicycle sales, professional servicing, accessories, apparel and expert advice, creating a hub for cyclists while supporting the continued expansion of the local trail network.
The cycling and trail offering also creates opportunities for group rides, time trials, sporting events and community activities, further establishing Crocworld as an outdoor recreation destination.
3. Conservation gets an entertaining twist
While adventure is an increasingly important part of the Crocworld experience, conservation remains firmly at its core.
The centre is reintroducing its popular ‘edutaining ‘ conservation talks, bringing local experts into the park to share their knowledge through accessible and engaging sessions.
The talks are designed to take conservation beyond traditional presentations, giving visitors the chance to learn directly from people working in the field and to better understand South Africa’s wildlife and natural environments.
4. Snake talks, demonstrations, and crocodile handling
The centre has also brought back its snake talks and demonstrations, giving visitors a hands-on chance to learn more about South Africa’s incredible reptiles, understand their role in the environment, and dispel some of the myths and misconceptions surrounding them.
The juvenile crocodile handling is another popular Crocworld attraction that safely allows visitors to get a close-up experience of these prehistoric reptiles.
5. From crocodiles to canopy adventures
One of the key additions to the Crocworld experience is Jikaleza Outdoor Adventures, the one and only zipline adventure of its kind in the region, located adjacent to the centre.
The aerial adventure experience offers a treetop obstacle course and zipline-style activities, with visitors experiencing the coastal surroundings from a different perspective. Designed for a wide age range, the attraction brings an active, adrenaline-fuelled element to the destination while complementing Crocworld’s existing wildlife experiences.
6. Dining experiences at Fish Eagle Café
The popular Fish Eagle Café at Crocworld is the perfect space to enjoy the natural scenery while enjoying a meal or drink. The introduction of weekend buffet dining options, as well as hosting special events throughout the year, gives people more access to this beautiful space.
Kids Parties: Crocworld has also reintroduced booking for kids’ birthday parties at Fish Eagle Café! This gives parents a fun and easy way to keep children and friends entertained, complete with meals, treats, and the option of day access to the park for a day outing. A new chapter for a Scottburgh landmark
The evolution of Crocworld forms part of a wider investment in the area and its outdoor tourism potential. Crocworld Adventure & Conservation Centre forms part of the 1,300-hectare Renishaw Coastal Precinct (RCP), which consists of lifestyle developments, Renishaw Hills and the newly launched Restilridge Farm Estate.
