Explore South America In Style, With Endless Views At Every Turn

If you’ve ever dreamt of exploring South America in unhurried luxury, without constantly packing and changing hotels, this is the ultimate way to do it. Journey through the Caribbean, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Ecuador at a relaxed pace, experiencing multiple destinations while enjoying the comfort and convenience of a single seamless stay on one of the world’s most beloved cruise ship– Queen Anne.

Cunard’s South America Discovery Voyage in 2027 leaves Fort Lauderdale in Florida on the 22 January 2027 and returns on 19 March. This immersive 56-night voyage will transport guests through the Caribbean and deep into South America, combining iconic cities, natural wonders, glacier cruising, cultural capitals and bucket-list experiences.

“This South America Discovery voyage offers South Africans the chance to experience one of the world’s most captivating continents in unmatched comfort and style. With Queen Anne calling at several maiden ports, Cunard’s newest luxury liner brings added appeal, not only through the destinations themselves but through the ease of a seamless journey,” says Shaun McCarthy, Managing Director at Whitestar Cruise & Travel, Cunard’s South African representative. “Guests can unpack once and enjoy a varied itinerary that brings together diverse cultures, adventures, landscapes and once in a lifetime experiences in a single voyage.”

The quintessential Queen Anne

Blending Cunard’s timeless elegance with a slightly more modern contemporary luxury, Queen Anne has capacity for 2 996 guests and 1 225 crew, and offers one of the most comprehensive luxury cruise experiences at sea. This includes 15 dining venues ranging from fine dining restaurants to traditional British pubs and casual cafés, alongside live entertainment, gala evenings, stylish bars and expansive outdoor spaces with ocean-view pools.

The ship also features the most extensive wellness and fitness offering ever introduced on a Cunard vessel. Across its 14 decks, Queen Anne showcases refined interiors and thoughtfully curated artwork, with a range of luxurious accommodation options which include elegant staterooms, exclusive penthouses featuring private balconies and personalised butler service.

‘Stunning’, ‘beautiful’, ‘fabulous’ and ‘outstanding’ are just some of the words passengers have used to describe their time aboard Queen Anne since her launch two years ago. Travelers have praised the ship’s elegant décor, contemporary sense of luxury, exceptional dining experiences and world-class entertainment, while many have also highlighted its welcoming atmosphere and sophisticated modern design.

Some of the highlights on the upcoming South America Discovery voyage will include overnight stays in Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, San Antonio and Callao, experiencing the Rio Carnival, scenic glacier cruising in Chile, sailing by Cape Horn, exploring the icy beauty of Patagonia, Santiago, Lima and Machu Picchu and sailing through the engineering marvel that is the Panama Canal.

Cruising the Caribbean

The cruise begins in Fort Lauderdale before heading to the Caribbean, where the turquoise waters and white-sand beaches of Grand Turk and Turks & Caicos are followed by the vibrant culture and colonial charm of Bridgetown, Barbados.

Beautiful Brazil

Brazil follows with its striking contrasts, including Fortaleza’s north-eastern coastline and Salvador’s rich Afro-Brazilian culture and historic charm, the scenic beaches of Búzios, and of course, an overnight stay in Rio de Janeiro during the world-famous Carnival.

Alluring Argentina

En route to Argentina, there is the opportunity to explore Montevideo, Uruguay – a city known for its relaxed coastal lifestyle and rich cultural depth, before continuing to Buenos Aires. Next is Puerto Madryn, the gateway to Patagonia’s raw coastal wilderness, best known for its dramatic landscapes and abundant marine wildlife, including whales, sea lions and penguins along the Valdés Peninsula. Further south, Ushuaia, famously the southernmost city in the world, often referred to as ‘the end of the world’, is framed by the Beagle Channel and the snow-capped peaks of the Andes, offering a striking blend of rugged scenery, Antarctic gateway heritage and a strong sense of remote adventure.

Charming Chile

The Chilean leg of the journey will take visitors to some of South America’s most dramatic scenery, including cruising the most Southern tip of the continent at Cape Horn before continuing to Punta Arenas, a historic Patagonian port. The route then moves through the breathtaking Chilean fjords, including Amalia Glacier and the remote Pío XI Glacier, where towering ice formations meet untouched wilderness.

Further north, Puerto Montt serves as the gateway to Chile’s lakes and volcano region, while San Antonio offers an overnight stay with access to Santiago and its cultural highlights. The itinerary continues to Coquimbo, a relaxed coastal port town, and Arica, where desert landscapes meet the Pacific Ocean in one of Chile’s most striking contrasts.

Picturesque Peru

An overnight stay at Callao in Peru includes tours to Lima and an optional trip to Machu Picchu, before heading to Panama City and a full transit through the Panama Canal. A final stop at the colourful Dutch-Caribbean island of Oranjestad in Aruba precedes the return to Fort Lauderdale

“As interest in longer, experience-led travel continues to grow among South African travelers, Cunard’s South America Discovery voyage offers the chance to explore an entire continent in comfort, style and incredible detail,” says McCarthy.

From approximately R2,440 per person per night, this voyage offers a rare opportunity for those fortunate enough to be able to experience travel at this level, combining comfort, discovery and lasting memories.

About us

Actually, Home Food and Travel offers a lot more than just reviews of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.  We also visit great destinations, receive advice from interior designers and stop to smell the roses and taste the coffee.

Our team of journalists are seasoned travels and love visiting the myriad of exciting places around South Africa.  Whether it is off the beaten track or in the heart of the top attractions of the country, we’ll be there,

Home Food and Travel advice on finding the right accommodation

So what is the right accommodation?  Well more often than not, it’s your travel budget that dictates the type of accommodation that you choose.

Expensive is not always better.  Our team at Home Food and Travel will tell you that they have camped in areas with limited ablutions and had a wonderful holiday.  They have also spent a night in a five star hotel only to be disappointed because their expectations exceeded the experience.

The reason for your travels will also affect your choice.  A business trip requires different amenities to a beach holiday.

Our articles, reviews and experiences can certainly help you make your decision.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table.

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.

On the road to great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities

If you’re driving, be safe and make use of all the wonderful farm stalls that populate South Africa’s open roads.

If you overhear somebody asking a lot of questions or see someone taking photos of empty bedrooms chances are it’s one of our Home Food and Travel team members.

We’re out looking or those great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.

See you on the road!
