We found this gem in the countryside near the town of Tulbagh, on the Tulbagh wine route, in the beautiful and unique Tulbagh valley. Essere Lodge is the perfect escape for anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing stay not too far from Cape Town.
As the fourth oldest town in South Africa, Tulbagh is steeped in tradition and history, making the town itself a desirable getaway destination with lots of activities on offer. Tulbagh is also the perfect base from which to explore the famed Cape Winelands.
Essere means “to be” in Italian which summarises the lodge’s appeal. Here, you can be yourself and relax and rejuvenate in your own way, whether it’s participating in one of the park runs nearby or chill and decompress in the garden, at the pool or a cosy fireside read in winter. As a group in a log cabin or just spending quality time with your significant other, Essere Lodge is your place to be.
Elegant suites to choose from at Essere Lodge
The eight suites are all styled in what the owners describe as organic industrial. Comfortable beds in an almost loft-like style of occasional exposed brick and pipework. Whether you want a private garden suite, a bathtub with a view, an outdoor shower, or adjoining rooms for your friends, they can accommodate you.
Choose from their Acacia, Protea, Olive, Cosmos, Aloe, Baobab and Fynbos suites. All rooms come with either King or Queen-size beds; bar fridges, coffee and tea facilities and are all en-suite. Some have baths in the rooms or private outside showers. The patios all have great views of the garden and mountains.
Acacia, the honeymoon suite, features a small private garden and its lounge includes a daybed and a fireplace for those chilly winter evenings.
Explore the amazing facilities
There are several great restaurants for lunch or dinner in Tulbagh, the hosts would be happy to make recommendations to suit your needs. The check-in introduction includes a list of things to do in the area including wine tasting, olive tasting, wine and chocolate pairing, and more.
Guests are welcome to use the pool, braai area, and full bar featuring award-winning local wines and craft beers. Braai packs are available on request or you can bring your own.
After you’re done exploring the town and its surrounds, Essere Lodge’s spa – time2Bme Spa @ Essere Lodge, is highly recommended for its amazing treatments and massages.
The lodge’s garden and spacious converted barn with modern industrial styling is a popular venue for weddings, relaxing team getaways or just a kick-your-feet-up weekend. Essere Lodge also hosts community events and festivals.
