De Hoek Manor, Stellenbosch
One of the best places to stay in central Stellenbosch is the 4-Star De Hoek Manor. Located on the corner of Drostdy and Church Streets and across the road from the historic NG Kerk, De Hoek Manor is peaceful, well-managed and very comfortable.
This is the heart of the historic centre of the university town of Stellenbosch. National Heritage buildings abound and the streets are lined with beautiful oak trees.
In fact, it is fair to say that De Hoek Manor boasts one of the best addresses in town. Within easy walking distance, you will find a host of cafes, restaurants, cinemas, designer boutiques, museums and curio shops.
By definition, a traditional manor is a large country house with a substantial garden. However, De Hoek Manor is no longer in the countryside and now only has a small-but-eye-catching courtyard.
The town of Stellenbosch may have grown around this lovely building, but the country atmosphere persists thanks to the terrace with its roses, the abundance of trees and, of course, the magnificent surrounding mountains De Hoek Manor has a 4.5 rating on TripAdvisor and a Certificate of Excellence.
Typical comments include: “I needed a calm, quiet and happy place place to finish my PhD and De Hoek was perfect. Great WiFi, big comfortable room with a desk, and Ilse was friendly and helpful through it all. Excellent breakfast, and very convenient for the University, and the excellent restaurants of Plein Street.” – Royboy1980
“I stayed at De Hoek Manor for a month and it was truly an unforgettable stay. Rooms are beautifully decorated, comfortable, with every detail taken care of. Accommodation at De Hoek Manor
De Hoek manor offers five spacious en-suite bedrooms. The rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, digital TV, desk and chair, underfloor heating, a fridge and a tea and coffee station.
Each room has a king size bed and the décor, as one would expect, has a country feel. The carefully selected furnishing and linen complement the high ceilings, sash windows and attractive views. Four of the rooms have hardwood floors while the two smallest rooms have a tiled floor.
The area may be full of history but the bathrooms are modern – granite counter tops, frameless glass, polished mirrors and gleaming taps. Each room has a shower.
There are two Superior Rooms that are 20sqm in size and fitted with a bath.
Two of the Deluxe rooms have 18sqm of living space. Despite the angled roof, the rooms are spacious with the roof beams only coming close to the floor at the edge of the rooms. In fact, the angled high ceiling and dormer windows add plenty of character to the rooms.
The Deluxe room located on the ground floor is 16sqm, as tiled floors and a private veranda.
