What I love most about my job is the amazing people I meet on my travels and from the moment I arrived at the 4-Star Baruch Guesthouse, which is situated at 29 Lovell Avenue, in Die Boord, Stellenbosch, I knew that this was going to be one of those occasions.
It also happened that Baruch Guesthouse recently opened a second establishment, Baruch Guest House on 29 Lovell Avenue. The mother guesthouse, Baruch on 35 Rhodes Noord Street, is a superb five-bedroom house with a plunge pool, reading room and dining area.
On my arrival at Baruch Guesthouse Lovell Avenue, I was warmly greeted by the owner, Natalie Scheepers, and the General Manager, Mariette Kirby, who showed me up to The Great Gatsby Room.
BARUCH GUEST HOUSE
I felt like I had gone back in time; the décor was shiny, metallic, ornamental, lace, silk, and a gorgeous chandelier hung from the ceiling above the king-size bed – a true touch of old Hollywood. There was also an en-suite bathroom with a free standing bath, double vanity basins and a luxury shower.
The kitchenette area was fitted with a fully-stocked mini-bar fridge, kettle, Nespresso machine and microwave. Leading off the room was a quaint separate balcony with a space to relax and enjoy the view of the sparkling blue swimming pool and neatly manicured garden.
After settling in, I got to sit down and enjoy a sundowner out at the pool area with Natalie, who is very hands-on. It did not take me long to see that her passion not only lies in the unique décor of Baruch Guesthouse, but also in creating a vibrant ambience and ensuring their guests have an unforgettable experience.
Situated in the beautiful historic town of Stellenbosch
Dinner is ordered in from their caterer, Dillie from The Baking Squirrel, of whom I had the pleasure of meeting. As it was a warm evening, we opted for Crumbed butterfly prawn tails with a dill mayonnaise (six per portion) – it was absolutely heavenly and moreish.
We then had their Smoked chicken fillet salad (greens, baby pickled beetroot, orange segments, sunflower seeds, creamy salad dressing) and later managed to squeeze in the most delicious decadent chocolate mousse with a coconut ganache I have ever had in my life!
Baruch Guesthouse also has a very private self-catering apartment, The Studio, and is a fully-functional stand–alone apartment comprising of a kitchenette and dining table with a lounge area. All suites have en-suite bathrooms, DStv, free Wi-Fi, Nespresso coffee machines and security alarm buttons in the rooms.
The accommodation was superb; the company excellent.
The dinner and breakfast hit all the right spots. I will certainly be back!
