So what if winter is just around the corner, there is still so much to enjoy in our wonderful country. It may seem like the wrong time of the year to be getting wet, but below are a list of really wild and fun activities that can be enjoyed even in the depths of winter. Some come with wet suites, some are indoors in warm water and some are just above the flow, so, no matter the temperature, all can be enjoyed as our Home Food and Travel team will attest.
Kestell Adventures
Kestell Adventures, run by Kestell Barnard, offers great, but challenging adventures including kloofing/canyoning to the Mac-Mac waterfall in Sabie.
On my arrival, Kestell got us ready in the parking area of Mac-Mac waterfall. He provides wetsuits and helmets and you just have to bring along your own shorts to put over the wetsuit (and your courage).
We started in the parking area of Mac-Mac waterfall and took an exciting trip down to the canyon and the waterfall, before returning to the parking lot three hours later. The total descent is 150m over a distance of around 6km.
Kestell is such a positive, energetic, professional experienced guide with loads of patience. He made sure that I enjoyed my day kloofing with him even though, at times, I was tired or nervous.
The beauty of the terrain down to the Mac-Mac waterfall was unbelievable.
The scenery quickly changes from wide open grassland into a thick jungle with lush vegetation and deep, hidden gorges.
Jumping into the rock-pools will keep the adrenalin pumping while the not-so-adventurous have the option to walk around pools. Light snacks and drinks are included and the minimum age is 12 years.
Kestell Adventures also offers tubing/geckoing, forest cruises, waterfall abseiling, caving by candle and other team-building adventures.
