Paarl holds a special place in my heart, growing up I have many memories visiting the magnificent Cape Winelands to reconnect with family.

The inn was built in 1900 and was later lovingly refurbished by your hosts, Johan and Christelle van Rensburg in 2016.

Johan carries extensive knowledge on hidden treasures of Paarl and surrounding areas. These places are not easily found by the conventional tourist and make for interesting discoveries for the discerning traveler. Christelle is an ardent cook and will treat to her delicious home-style cooking.

Many guests have often received unexpected cheese and fruit platters or homemade cookies delivered to their door.

There are four comfortable accommodation offerings to choose from. For those looking to self-cater, Granite Grey is an independent unit with its own little garden, kitchenette and veranda where you can have a traditional braai overlooking the famous Paarl Rock.

The guesthouse would not be complete without a room named after the Paarl Rock – the Die Pêrel room, which features comfortable living for families.

Die Patriot is a spacious, dreamy room that opens up into a well-established, lush green garden, protected against the wind by wise old trees. It is well-furnished with all that you can need for a memorable stay.

In addition to an offering of elegant farmstyled interiors, comfy beds, crispy clean linen, fully-equipped kitchenettes, clean en-suite bathrooms, armchairs, living room space, here you can slow down and learn the Afrikaans art of ‘stoep sit’.

Afrika Pearl Guest House also offers guests daily maid services, free Wi-Fi, swimming pool access, breakfast. Dinner must be arranged before arrival.

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance. Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion. However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review. We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience? The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table.

Well that’s our theory anyway. It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe. It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.
