De Uijlenes: A lovely wedding & accommodation venue

Perched near one of the best vistas overlooking the Uilkraal Valley, lies the De Uijlenes Wedding Venue – in my opinion, the best location in the Overstrand for a rustic farm-style wedding.

The De Uijlenes Farm is a working vegetable and dairy farm, and has been for centuries, belonging to the same family all the while.

Situated on the farm is also the Nonnetjie Uijlhuis, which offers comfortable accommodation.

It has its own private dam and offers spectacular views of the Uilkraal Valley. There are boats available at the dam, but I would recommend a swim in its clear and warm waters.

The Nonnetjie Uijlhuis has six rooms on the ground floor – four of which are en-suite, and seven en-suite rooms on the first floor. All rooms come equipped with the finest linen and the comfiest towels.

The house, which can sleep groups of up to 40 people, is self-catering. You can choose to prepare and enjoy a meal in the large open plan kitchen and dining area, which is also equipped with an indoor braai, or, should you wish to enjoy the fresh Overberg air, you can head out on the stoep, to the outdoor cooking area that overlooks the dam. It’s also the perfect place to enjoy a traditional braai!

When booking the Nonnetjie Uil House, you will receive full exclusivity of the house, dam and the surrounding lawn – hence you are guaranteed total privacy.

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance. Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion. However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review. We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe. It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.
