The Old Mill is considered one of the oldest farms in the valley of Oudtshoorn. It was purchased by Schoeman Plat in 1765. The Old Mill has been passed through to many different owners over the years, but still holds some of its history on the property, from the Old Cemetary with its original Dutch writings to the mill itself.

There are seven different types of accommodation options to choose from at Old Mill Country Lodge. Guests can choose to stay in the normal 4-Star luxury rooms, the self-catering units, Waterfront cabins, Riverfront tents or the Waterfront family unit.

The luxury rooms have a double room and family unit to choose from. The double room comes with a bathroom with a shower, air-conditioning, a fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities, a large double room that has its own bathroom and balcony, and a veranda view overlooking the beautiful farm.

The family unit has an en-suit bathroom with a shower, two separate rooms, a TV, fan, air-conditioning, a fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities and access to the portable braai.

Meanwhile, the self-catering units come with two separate bedrooms with their own en-suite bathrooms, a lounge with a TV and a fully equipped kitchenette for all your self-catering needs.

The Waterfront cabins have excellent views of the dam, mountains and the farm, and come with a bathroom with a shower and bath, air-conditioning, a fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities and a TV with DStv.

In addition, the Riverfront tents and Waterfront cabins will have guests sleeping right by the water and come with air-conditioning, a fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities, a hairdryer, a bathroom with a shower and a TV.

The Waterfront family unit comes with two rooms that have a shared bathroom with a shower and bath. The units are equipped with a kitchen, a deck, a TV in the bedrooms, air-conditioning, a fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities, and a hairdryer.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important. 

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.
