Tucked away a mere 7km from Nieu Bethesda in the Karoo, is the 3-star accommodation of Ganora Guest Farm. This converted sheep farm accommodation is perfect for visitors wanting to enjoy the open Karoo.

The farmstead and guest cottages are nestled deep in the slopes of a depression carved into the bedrock by ancient rivers in pre-historic times.

The owners of the farm, Jan-Peet and Hester, are part of a game rehabilitation programme, which allows visitors to interact with orphaned game that have made the farm their home.

There is also has a museum with an extensive fossil collection, including rare examples found nowhere else in the country. It boasts various sites with well-preserved rock paintings and engravings.

The Ganora Guest Farm also hosts art and photography courses for guests from time to time.

For stays, Ganora Guest Farm offers 3-Star accommodation with various options. Groups of up to 26 persons can be accommodated in B&B rooms.

All the rooms are converted from old working buildings used by the sheep farm.

All the rooms are splendidly decorated and completely comfortable – you would never believe it used to be an old engine room or chicken shed.

A pool is also available for those scorching days when you just need to cool down and relax. For those who enjoy fun outdoor activities, you can also go on a marked hiking or mountain biking routes. Since it is a working sheep farm, you can also expect to participate in their fun sheep shearing tours.

Meals are a very important and are a not-to-be-missed experience at Ganora. Here visitors can look forward to enjoying some traditional Karoo cooking, friendly company and much laughter about the events of the day.

Regular dishes on offer includes Karoo lamb, kudu and other game dishes, bobotie with spiced rice, organically grown vegetable dishes, and their sweet delectable koeksisters and melktert.

At the prestigious Sanlam Top Destination Awards for 2017 Ganora Guest Farm was announced as the winner in the 3-Star Farm Accommodation category! They also won the 3-Star Country House award at the Lilizela Awards.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important. 

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table. 

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.
