The Sabie Vakansie Huis – a jewel in the Sabie River Valley

The Sabie Vakansie Huis is more than just a self-catering house. With its breath-taking views, it is the perfect place for a family or romantic couple visiting the scenic Sabie River Valley of Mpumalanga.

True to the name ‘vakansie huis’, this accommodation is the perfect holiday house for those wanting to soak in the refreshing Mpumalanga air and forget the hustle and bustle of the city.

The house is built on secure stilts, which allow for elevated views of the surroundings. It can accommodate four adults and two children, and comprises of two bedrooms and one bathroom. Both bedrooms are furnished with comfy double beds and ceiling fans.

A camping-cot and a baby bath are available if you are travelling with a little one. The bathroom is fitted with a shower, a basin and a toilet.

The living area is open-plan and the kitchen contains a fridge-freezer, a washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, stove, an oven and ample built-in cupboards with all the crockery and cutlery you could possibly need.

A gas braai is also available if you are in the mood for a traditional South African cook out.

The lounge area leads to a wooden deck with great views over the picturesque village of Sabie and the surrounding mountains. Guests can enjoy a glass of wine at the boma and listen to the sounds of the veld, the mountains and waterfalls.

The Sabie Vakansie Huis is in close proximity to the Panorama Route where you can visit the famous God’s Window look-out, the Three Rondavels, Blyde River Canyon, and Bourke’s Luck Potholes.

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance. Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion. However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review. We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.
