Tala Game Reserve is open to day visitors and overnight guests, following a successful business rescue from Dream Hotels & Resorts Located in Camperdown, a 50-minute drive from Durban central, Tala has welcomed its first local and international visitors for 2019 after a soft reopening last year.

The reserve spans a 3000-hectare malaria-free area and features a mix of accommodation, wedding and conferencing options catering to different markets, budgets and group sizes.

Across the open grasslands, you will find more than 380 bird species as well as several species of wildlife such as kudu, hippo, buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest and eland.

There are seven different accommodation offerings in Tala Private Game Reserve, each one offers something unique and special that you can enjoy every time you visit. Options are available for those, who prefer either a self-catering or catered stay in the Game Reserve.

All offerings have their own luxury facilities and amenities to make sure that you have the most tranquil and comfortable experience during your stay. The accommodation available on the reserve is also suited for larger groups so you can bring the whole family or a large group of friends along to enjoy the visit together.

Leadwood Lodge features six luxury stand-alone cottages, and recently launched four Luxury rooms at the newly renovated Manor house, while Aloe Lodge has seven comfortable rooms. There are 12 Deluxe Rooms at Tala’s Paperbark Lodge, six en-suite rooms at Mahogany House, and a seventh unique private rondavel, which opens onto the swimming pool.

Overnight guests also have the option to self-cater at the Fisherman’s Cottage located near one of the reserve’s dams or enjoy a family getaway in the five-bedroom Figtree house – a beautifully-restored farmhouse set under beautiful fig trees with serene vistas.

The La Tala Restaurant in the Game Reserve offers guests and day visitors a chance to enjoy an incredible dining experience under a thatched roof. The menu has been expertly crafted by their chef and offers a delicious balance of fusion flavours to enjoy.

“Day visitors are welcome at Tala, and there are picnic & Braai areas surrounding the impressive Rockpools swimming area,” says Ragunanan. “Meals are served at La Tala Restaurant, which has stunning views on both sides, a cosy fireplace and is regularly visited by both giraffe and nyala.”

There are three different Conferencing Facilities to choose from at Tala Private Game Reserve to suit your corporate event. From meetings to conferences, they can change the style of the rooms to suit whatever you might need and provide the necessary equipment you might require.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important. 

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.
