Nestled in the picturesque Eastern Free State, Ladybrand Heritage House provides travellers with a unique combination of old-world charm and the comfort of modern-day living.
This historic double-storey sandstone house was founded as an orphanage in 1904, after the Anglo-Boer War and still retains some of its history, both inside and out.
The pretty town of Ladybrand is surrounded by the undulating hills of the Eastern Free State and is situated 15 km from Maseru, the gateway to Lesotho. The town is one of the prime rock art regions in the world, where the San, the ‘first people’ of the country, left behind numerous paintings on rock art, depicting their lives.

Accommodation at Ladybrand Heritage House
There are seven different rooms to choose from at Ladybrand Heritage House. Rooms have been named after families that formed part of the heritage of the historic children’s home. Every room has its own unique style and is comprised of modern décor and historic charm.
Rooms to choose from include The Grewar Room, The Taute Room, The Lourens Room, The Joubert Room, The Stahmer Room and Van Rooyen Room. All rooms are en-suite, equipped with showers, air-conditioning, satellite TV, USB Ports, electric blankets, hairdryers, towels and general amenities, coffee and tea-making facilities.
Named after the first house parents of the original orphanage, The Grewar Room is fitted with a Queen-sized bed, dressed with fine linen and can sleep two people.
The Taute, Lourens and Van Rooyen Rooms were named after Ministers that chaired the orphanage after the Grewars. These rooms are equipped with Queen-sized beds, fitted with fine linen and can sleep up to two people.
The Joubert Room, named after Oom Japie Joubert, comes with a King-sized bed and a sleeper couch and a writing desk. This room can sleep up to four people (Two adults and two children under seven).
The Stahmer Room offers a Queen-size bed with a beautiful front garden view, situated next to the balcony.
Facilities at Ladybrand Heritage House
A unique Heritage Breakfast is served every morning, lining the inner soul before you go off to explore the town of Ladybrand and surroundings.
A three-course dinner is served by prior arrangement, offering traditional South African dishes such as bobotie, oxtail, fillet steak, venison pie. End the evening off with a koeksister, melktert, malva poeding and a Maroela liquer.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, to share your experience with your loved ones.
A gymnasium offers the opportunity for a good workout. You can also play a game of tennis or squash or play a round of golf, at the bordering Ladybrand Sports Club, or just lounge around the refreshing swimming pool.
