Cape Town remains one of my favourite cities on the planet and this was reaffirmed on a recent stay in the City Bowl precinct. Having stayed in the suburbs, hamlets and villages that make up the greater city, this was the first time that I spent the night in the City Bowl with time to spare.
Cape Town Hollow Boutique Hotel at 88 Queen Victoria Street, Gardens, is one block away and parallel to Long Street. Loop and Bree Streets are also parallel and the next blocks up are an easy walk away.
These streets are famous around the world for their pubs, clubs, restaurants, shops and fantastic holiday atmosphere.
If you’re also looking for a bit of a cultural experience then the South African Museum and the Company Gardens are just across the road from the Cape Town Hollow Boutique Hotel.
The South African National Gallery and The Castle are just a few steps beyond.
Access to the rest of Cape Town is just around the corner via the M3 (Winelands, major shopping centres and West Coast) and down Buitengragt St (Waterfront, Table Mountain and Atlantic Seaboard).
The hotel itself is newly-renovated and has a contemporary décor throughout, making it fresh and welcoming. Hospitality staff in Cape Town are some of the most friendly and well-trained in the world and the Cape Town Hollow Boutique Hotel, leading from the front, made me feel very welcome.
My room was neat, had all the amenities that I could desire and had a wonderful view across the company gardens and Table Mountain.
The bathroom shone and the linen was crisp and fresh. Even though the hotel is in a busy section of the city, thanks to the adjacent park and public buildings, noise was virtually non-existent and I slept like the dead.
As the entire planet is aware, Cape Town is experiencing a terrible drought and saving water is a huge priority. Thankfully the hotel is geared for managing their water efficiently and so the swimming pool on the first floor was full and crystal clear.
“I took a long, refreshing swim after my explorations rather than a shower.”
The Eighty Ate restaurant on the ground floor serves a delicious breakfast to suit Continental, English and health diets. On arrival, I was given a complimentary bottle of wine for my evening meal. The food was delicious and may be enjoyed el fresco at the sidewalk tables.
I look forward to returning to the Cape Town Hollow Boutique Hotel because the two days I spent here was not nearly sufficient to experience all the area has to offer.
