The Kimberley Club, Kimberley
The Kimberley Club is an unquestionably unique hotel experience. When you step into this 4-star accommodation offering set in the heart of Kimberley, the feeling of being ushered into that by-gone era when pioneers and fortune seekers came to the new territories during the diamond rush is hard to miss.
What happened in this town shaped its traditions and history as well as for the rest of the Southern African region – and The Kimberley Club was at the heart of the action. The hotel was founded in 1881 by Cecil John Rhodes himself.
Over its 120 years of history, it has provided a place of rest for weary travellers and renowned personalities, who included business tycoons, sovereigns, princes and princesses, Governors and high commissioners – the men and women, who shaped the future of the region.
The famed Kimberley diamond rush of the 19th century is now history, but this historic hotel remains and continues to provide stately and spacious accommodation as well as a top-class bar and restaurants to a new generation of visitors to the town.
The Kimberley Club has since been renovated and refurbished. Spending a night at this living monument is a must!

What do people say about The Kimberley Club
“What a hidden gem in the centre of Kimberley. Colonial style charm where you are surrounded by amazing history. This old Gentleman’s Club has been turned into a boutique hotel without taking away anything of its charm and ambience of days gone by. It would not be far-fetched to imagine bumping into Cecil John Rhodes or Barney Barnato while you have a drink in the original pub or on the veranda. Both restaurants have great menus and the food is of very high standard. Don’t miss this gem when you are in Kimberley!” – Ace TripAdvisor.
“Despite being in an old part of town,
I will never pass through Kimberley and not stay here!
One can imagine what it was like in the early days of South Africa when the
pioneers arrived on horseback, shovels in hand, and diamonds on their minds.
The service is brilliant and the staff wonderful, cold nights by the fire in
the Rhodes dining room with a good red wine before we head off once again into
the Karoo. Highly recommended!” – Von TripAdvisor.
“We stayed at the Kimberley Club as a friend recommended it. A really good tourist spot in the Free State/North West area, where on a road trip we battled to find charming tourist spots. If you like old fashioned good manners and want to step back into history this is for you. Staff treat you like a king, but also as though you are at your own home. Loved playing the piano.” – Gina TripAdvisor.
