My husband and I were extremely excited when heard we would be staying at the Brenton Bushbuck Lodge, situated in the picturesque sea-side resort town of Brenton-on-Sea, which is a mere 14.8 km from Knysna.
From the moment we arrived, our hosts, Esmé and Julie, made us feel like we were their only guests. They even gave us a tour of the immediate surrounds, which we found to have spectacular views over the ocean, with a glimpse of the Knysna Heads and Buffalo Bay hiding just around the corner.
We couldn’t wait to go out and explore the area, as well as the beautiful picnic spot that was pointed out for us.
Brenton Bushbuck Lodge has lovely accommodation
Back at our roomy apartment, we agreed that the place was absolutely beautiful. Our lodgings had a covered, shaded patio area with a lovely garden and complemented by the calming sound of running water from a nearby water feature.
We were even more surprised when we entered its very spacious living room area. With luxurious couches, a huge flat-screen smart TV with DStv premium and Netflix, a huge chess table, lots of books, games, toys, DVD ’s and CD’s, as well as free, unlimited Wi-Fi and even a feeding chair, we found it a great place for families and other travellers.
The Bushbuck Lodge’s two very spacious bedrooms had crisp white bedding, quality towels and everything one needs for a luxurious, self-catering weekend or holiday. Both bedrooms have a private bathroom, fitted with a shower, while the main bedroom has a luxurious bath.
While the main bedroom has a King-sized bed, the second bedroom has a double bed. We found Lindt ball chocolates and a touch of lavender on our bed.
Fresh food & awesome activities
The kitchenette was fully-equipped with a stove, microwave, washing machine, fridge and a coffee machine with coffee pods. Our hosts spoilt us further with a bottle of spring water, fresh milk and a bottle of chilled wine!
Eager to see what the area has on offer, we took a drive to the Brenton-on-Sea beachfront. A scenic beach awaited us. There, we met friendly fishermen trying to catch something for the pan and other happy holidaymakers. Besides sunbathing at the beach, there is plenty to do in the area including ferry rides, sand boarding, hiking, bungee jumping and sampling the local cuisine at local eateries.
Back at Brenton Bushbuck Lodge, we had a well-deserved night’s rest in a very comfortable bed, with the sound of the waves, crickets and a frog calling its mate in the distance.
We woke up to the smell of freshly-baked croissants the following morning and were served with the best breakfast ever, on our own patio! The pictures accompanying this article do not do justice to our experience at Brenton Bushbuck Lodge – thank you Julie and Esmé!
They made us to realise what ‘hospitality’ really means. You really only have to pack your clothes and a toothbrush, Brenton Bushbuck Lodge will have everything else ready for you.
We were highly privileged to experience Brenton Bushbuck Lodge and can recommend them to anyone visiting the Garden Route.
