This Heritage and Tourism Month, Legacy Hotels & Resorts is giving guests more than just a place to stay – it’s giving them a chance to connect with South African culture.
Launching across select hotels this month, groups can now take part in the Living Legacy immersive workshops that bring local music, craft, and creativity right into their hotel stay. Tapping into the insight that travellers are seeking more than just destinations and are looking for a deeper connection to a place and its people, the vision is to invite guests not just to observe the culture, but to take part in it. Because sometimes the best souvenirs aren’t bought – they’re created.
Starting with the following three, the Living Legacy immersive cultural experiences will expand in variety and roll out over the next few months across the hotel group…

Feel the Rhythm of the Bush – Bakubung Bush Lodge
Guests can immerse themselves in the vibrant sounds of South Africa through marimba drumming workshops, led by local musicians from the surrounding community. Trained and equipped as part of Legacy’s CSI initiatives, these talented performers welcome visitors with song and rhythm, and now share their passion through interactive sessions that connect travellers with the spirit of the Bakubung people – the “People of the Hippo.”
Craft with Purpose – The Commodore Hotel & The Portswood Hotel, Cape Town
In collaboration with Monkeybiz, guests are invited to experience the joy of beading while directly supporting community upliftment. Participants can create handcrafted treasures such as bracelets or beaded pins, each accompanied by a bespoke postcard and a small gift made by one of the talented artists. The workshops celebrate local talent and ensure guests leave with a keepsake that carries a story of impact and creativity.

Pause. Pour. Create. – The Centurion Hotel
Perfect for team-building or a mindfulness break, this sand art workshop encourages creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Guests are guided in the calming practice of creating their own sand art pieces, offering a refreshing and memorable alternative to traditional corporate activities.
“Today’s traveller is looking for more than just a hotel stay – they’re looking for meaning, connection, and authentic experiences,” says Hara Jackson, Sales Director at Legacy Hotels & Resorts. “By partnering with artisans and performers from our surrounding communities, we are giving guests the opportunity to engage with South Africa’s living heritage in a way that is immersive, impactful, and memorable.”
With these experiences, Legacy Hotels & Resorts continues to honour its commitment to cultural celebration, community empowerment, and unforgettable guest experiences, ensuring that every stay becomes a story worth sharing.
