More than 60% of travellers are planning holidays around slow travel, a growing global trend that favours depth over speed, and presence over pressure (Business Insider). Described as a “mindset” focused on “exploring somewhere on a deeper level” and “making space mentally and physically for things to happen spontaneously”, slow travel is reshaping how people experience their time away.
In line with this shift, Steenberg Farm in Cape Town’s Constantia Valley, offers a setting that naturally complements a slower and more reflective approach to travel.
From April through September, known locally as the Green Season, the estate is quieter and more settled. After the autumn rains, the vineyards and gardens return to life, creating an atmosphere of calm and renewal. With fewer visitors around, guests can experience the farm at a more relaxed pace.
“The Green Season is when Steenberg truly feels like a private sanctuary,” says Jestine Enslin, Marketing Manager, Steenberg Farm. “Our villas become a hidden retreat, where guests can disconnect from the busyness of daily life and reconnect with nature, with others, or simply themselves.”

Cooler evenings invite a slower pace, whether that’s time spent by the fire or a quiet dip in the heated pool, spa visits or unhurried mornings. “The feel of the season is entirely different to what people expect during the busy summer months,” adds Enslin. The landscape plays a role in this slower rhythm, with the estate becoming a natural backdrop for rest and reflection.
Private villa stays during this time offer an alternative to traditional hotel accommodation or summer travel. Each villa spans between 160 and 166 m² of open plan living and includes a private pool, kitchenette, lounge area, patio, and under-floor heating. It provides both comfort and flexibility for solo travellers, couples, families or groups. Whether it’s solo retreats, fireside dinners for two or shared family downtime in a three-bedroom villa, the villas are designed to suit a wide range of guests and needs.

Guests who opt to stay longer benefit from more than just time. Steenberg’s ‘Linger Longer’ package (Stay 4, Pay for 3 or Stay 7, Pay for 5), valid from 1 May to 30 September 2025, provides space for more immersive experiences. Extended stays open the door to personalised activities like full day spa experiences, nature walks through the estate, and unhurried rounds on the championship golf course, designed by Peter Matkovich.

“The longer you stay, the more you can disconnect from the usual rush and reconnect with yourself, with others, or simply with the environment,” says Enslin. “It’s about slowing down and enjoying moments that don’t feel scheduled or rushed.”
More than just a cost-saving opportunity, the Green Season and its ‘Linger Longer’ offering represents a deeper value: the chance to travel in a way that prioritises time over itinerary, connection over consumption, and presence over pressure.
As Enslin puts it, “This season encourages a different kind of travel. It’s not about ticking off sights; it’s about taking a breath, staying present, and finding connection in the stillness.”
