GINGER RESTAURANT MAKES DINNING OUT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE
Ginger Restaurant, located at the Beach Hotel on Beach Road, Port Elizabeth, is, in a word, elegant. This landmark restaurant with a reputation to match was my first choice to celebrate my girlfriends recent birthday.
Despite my high expectations, Ginger Restaurant’s staff were excellent. Just the right amount of attention and always on hand to top up the wine glass.
It is perhaps the ambiance for which Ginger Restaurant is most well-known. Crisp linen and sparkling cutlery adorn the well positioned tables, a glass fronted wine cellar and contemporary seaside décor ensure that dinners eat in a very pleasant environment.

CREATIVITY MIXED WITH CONVENTION
The wine list has been carefully chosen to compliment the menu. Knowing that we were going to experiment with the food, we choose a simple but universal Chardonnay.
The menu offers a good mix of creativity and well known dishes. The delicious beetroot and chocolate risotto, which we chose to share as a starter, is a typical example.
My slow braised lamb shank with couscous was lovely but my girlfriend’s hake served with feta and lemon potato croquettes, buttered leeks, a pea purée and topped with caper black butter was extraordinarily good. Perhaps the best hake dish that I have ever tasted.
We discussed our dessert, roast ginger and thyme brûlée, at length and concluded that it was a perfect mix of flavours.
