The Nelson Mandela Bay Yacht Club seemed to be the perfect place to spend an afternoon with an old friend visiting from the UK.
I have long been a fan of this location and regularly visited the old Algoa Bay Yacht Club because of its great view, sunny deck, well stocked pub and great menu.
The recent change of tenant has brought about some significant improvements while still keeping the best parts of the old club as they were.
NELSON MANDELA BAY YACHT CLUB MENU IS GREAT
I chose this spot not only because of its location but also because I wanted to try out the menu introduced by the new owners.
Nelson Mandela Bay Yacht Club menu offers a full range of seafood and sushi. Sushi makes up a large part of the menu.
My friend and I had sushi for starters and he had the large prawns and I the fried hake. The sushi was excellent, in fact some of the best I have had. The hake was succulently fresh and the prawns were covered in a delicious sauce.
The chip portion was substantial, the salad was crisp and fresh and vegetables were good too.
The grill menu offers steaks, burgers and chicken. If you’re looking for something lighter they offer wraps and salads.
Our waitress was friendly and polite, knew her menu and served us with a smile.
NOTABLE IMPROVEMENTS
Apart from the name change the new club has air-conditioning in the bar and restaurant, wifi and some very comfortable couches both in the pub and on the deck.
The great thing about old friends is that you can pick up from where you left off, be it six months or even a few years, since you last shared each other’s company. Sitting on the deck at the yacht club, I realised that I had been reunited with two old friends, both of whom ensured that I had a very pleasant afternoon.
