On the outskirts of East London is a quaint restaurant that offers so much in the heart of the Cintsa West bushveld.
Set in rustic and beautiful farm surroundings, Tea in the Trees marks the start of your journey into the magnificent Wild Coast and offers a mix of enjoyable family events, outdoor activities as well as delicious breakfast, lunch and treats. Consequently, when you stop by, expect to stretch your legs on one of their picturesque 5km coastal walking and cycling trails or take part in one of the yoga classes that are held there every Sunday morning.
Every first and last Sunday of the month, there is also a ‘market day’.
Here, you can expect to find various stalls selling treats, jams, books, trinkets and other wares.
Seated at one of their outside tables, under the shade of trees, while enjoying the fresh ocean air, views of the surrounding bush and the Indian Ocean horizon, as the kids enjoyed the jungle gym, it was easy to forget that we were just 25km from the bustle of East London.
The name says tea, but this licensed café also has an awesome coffee bar, which serves among the best ‘handmade’ coffees in the area. On this occasion, we decided on a cappuccino and a cup of old-fashion rooibos tea as we waited for our brunch.
While enjoying my tea, I also noticed how the owner, Kate, paid individual attention to every visitor and family arriving at the venue.
Our order arrived moments later – and I must add, in huge portions. I had ordered their open sandwich topped with bacon, feta, avocado, salad and chips. Ron, my husband, had decided to try their bacon, egg, cheese and gherkin brunch burger, also served with chips.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meals!
There is still a wide variety on their menu that we will be trying in the future. We enjoyed our day out at Tea in the Trees that we came out again the Sunday for the home produce market.
Tea in the Trees has hosted many weddings and parties and is suitable for celebrating any special occasion. They also have a small cottage to rent during the Christmas season. The cottage has a fully-equipped kitchenette, double bed, a separate rock shower room with toilet and basin. This accommodation is ideal for those wanting a simple African experience.
