So what if winter is just around the corner, there is still so much to enjoy in our wonderful country. It may seem like the wrong time of the year to be getting wet, but below are a list of really wild and fun activities that can be enjoyed even in the depths of winter. Some come with wet suites, some are indoors in warm water and some are just above the flow, so, no matter the temperature, all can be enjoyed as our Home Food and Travel team will attest.
Sharklady Adventures
Earlier this year, I spent a week along the Overberg coastline and I fell in love with the area. Outdoor-lovers are spoilt for choice with a multitude of activities while Hermanus, Gansbaai and Kleinbaai are probably best-known for their ocean and marine life.
It was during this trip that I had the privilege of meeting one of the most passionate marine-lovers this country has ever seen. Kim Maclean, or better known as the Sharklady, launched Sharklady Adventures in 1992 and has been offering exclusive Great White Shark diving trips and educational tours in Gansbaai ever since.
Shark cage diving is a mind-blowing experience from both above and below the water, which is why Sharklady Adventures offers cage diving as well as surface viewing trips twice daily.
A tour generally lasts about four hours. Thus, breakfast or a light lunch is included in your booking.
Getting to know the one of the most magnificent apex predators in the world face-to-face is both thrilling and exciting.
Doing so with one of the most experienced operators in the industry, leaves you well-educated with a deeper understanding of the magnificent Great White Shark and its purpose in the marine eco-system.
You can also look forward to seeing thousands of Cape Fur seals, birdlife, penguins as well as Southern Right Whales from September to December.
All diving equipment is supplied and transfers via the ‘Sharky Shuttle’ are available from central Cape Town and surrounds. Children are also welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
It is important to note that Sharklady Adventures complies with the strictest code of conduct and safety as laid down by Marine & Coastal Management. They are committed to being a responsible and eco-friendly operation and do not interfere with the sharks or pollute the environment.
