Situated a mere two hours outside of Cape Town, Jan Harmsgat Historic Farms and Country House is the perfect stop-over.
Here you will discover the charm of this luxury 5-Star accommodation that comprises of 10 exclusive rooms – Double, Twin and Family Rooms plus a romantic honeymoon suite. Breakfast is included and a fine-dining restaurant is on-site where you can enjoy mouth-watering breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
Upon arrival, we kicked off our shoes to walk on the green grass, took deep breaths and revitalized our spirits with the aromas of fresh gardens.
For our stay, we booked into their Classic Quarters Room. The room has a ceiling fan, King-size Sleigh bed, coffee and tea facilities, percale linen, en-suite bathroom, underfloor heating, and a large shower with a stunning view of the orchards.
The beautiful thatch-roof building encompasses 4-rooms and the two communal lounges, complete with a private courtyard and is situated next to the salt-water pool. We also had access to a communal mini bar.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at a restaurant in the main building – named Just Amy after Amy Kleinhans-Curd, Miss South Africa in 1992. Like the rooms, the restaurant has a homey, comfortable feel with chic, modern finishes.
All overnight guests are treated to a Farm Tour, Wine Tasting and a Jan Harmsgat Breakfast, which includes fresh fruit parfait topped with homemade muesli and yoghurt, followed by a hot breakfast of their choice, freshly squeezed juice and fresh brewed coffee or tea.
JAN HARMSGAT HISTORIC FARMS AND COUNTRY HOUSE
The lunch and dinner menu changes frequently. The kitchen utilizes fresh produce from the gardens and serves choices such as roasted rack of lamb, grilled duck breast with orange and apricot sauce, aged beef fillet and handmade pastas. Dessert was very tempting with items like Dark Chocolate Tart, Traditional Baked Cheesecake and their signature Pecan and chocolate tart, made from their own organically-grown Pecan tree orchards.
Jan Harmsgat is also known for their child-friendly facilities, cycling and hiking trails, sunset picnics and wine tasting in the countryside.
During the summer, guests can cool off in their crisp pool or enjoy some refreshments under the Pecan Nut trees. The indulgence does not stop with the accommodation, but is carried throughout your experience. Jan Harmsgat is not just a destination, it’s an experience!
