If you have ever visited the historic and picturesque town of Tulbagh before, you’ll believe me when I say that it is worth a second visit. It was during such a visit that we decided to stay over at the Manley Wine Lodge, which is just a stone’s throw away from the centre of town.
The Manley Wine Lodge is an award-winning working wine farm that boasts seven luxury double rooms and two luxury cottages.
The lodge is surrounded by spectacular views of the mountains and the once full dam.
The Lodge is also a well-known wedding and conference venue in the region and houses a wine tasting room where you can sample some of their best creations.
If you love your wine then you definitely need to pay a visit to their wine tasting room. Manley wines are only available in South Africa directly from their cellar or online store.
The Bulk of their wines are exported to overseas markets. My favourite was the 2014 Shiraz.
During our stay, we chose to spoil ourselves by staying in one of their luxury double rooms. The room had a luxurious en-suit bathroom and was well-equipped with a TV, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, bar fridge and a lovely well-stocked fireplace.
Our bedroom was splendidly decorated with soft finishes, crisp bed linen and very comfortable four-poster bed.
The rooms at Manely Lodge are built in an L-shape to make for easy access to the crystal clear pool for those days where you want to take a dip and relax during the summer.
Dinner can be enjoyed at the lodge upon request.
We decided to pay a visit to the Manley Lodge restaurant where my husband enjoyed a beef fillet with mashed potatoes while I enjoyed a hearty helping of pork chops and mashed potatoes as well. The portions were very generous and the meat was expertly prepared much to our delight.
The following morning, we had a choice of freshly prepared fruit and cereal for breakfast. This was accompanied by a wonderfully brewed cup of coffee and a warm English breakfast.
Manley Wine Lodge is the perfect location should you wish to spend a couple of days in Witzenberg Valley and explore the towns of Ceres and Wolsey.
