There is something magical about Sibani Lodge, nestled in the Cradle of Humankind in the tranquil nature reserve of Mt Savannah, a short 40 minute drive out of Johannesburg.
The reserve is home to an abundance of wildlife. Giraffe, red hartebeest, kudu, impala and zebra graze the savannah. And for birders a large variety of bird species can be spotted.
Wide-open spaces greet you as you drive through the gates, and you would be forgiven to think that you are in the plains of the Serengeti.
Sibani Lodge is the perfect place to escape the rat race, recharge your batteries and unwind completely under the African sky.
Situated in the heart of the Cradle of Humankind, this area has been recognised as the place from which all of humankind originated. It’s one of eight World Heritage Sites in South Africa, and the only one in Gauteng.
“We pride ourselves in offering our guests a home away from home experience. We’ve included family-style cooking into our kitchen and host braai evenings in the boma. This is where our staff can share their knowledge of traditional cooking with our guests. All these elements allow our guests to sit back, relax and have a real family-like breakaway,” states Karin Le Roux, General Manager for Sibani.
Luxury Tent Accommodation at Sibani Lodge
Four Luxury Tents are available at Sibani Lodge. There is the main building where your meals are lovingly prepared and a boma to utilise as the sun sets over the dolomite mountains.
The main building is a dining room and lounge in one. Curl up on one of the massive sofas with your nose in a book or sip one of their fabulous wines from Swellendam next to the huge indoor fireplace.
The tents are pure luxury, with beautiful décor. A shower, loo and washbasin are attached to the tent, and a small veranda allows for unobstructed views of nature. Magnificently appointed, two of the tents overlook the waterhole.
The tented camp has no electricity and charged lights are brought to you at dusk. The tents are lit at night with hurricane lanterns and candles, while hot water thermoses ensure you have enough water for a steaming cup of tea or coffee when you wake. There is a generator at the main area within the camp that is turned on morning and night to charge your devices.

Bathrooms, clean and spacious equipped with everything you need… Imagine taking a bath with a view! I am in love! Highly recommended, don’t miss out on an unforgettable stay at Sibani!” – Jani TripAdvisor.
“We spent a wonderful night in a luxurious tent: enjoying the food, game drive with the excellent Simon as guide and a relaxing night around the fire in the boma prepared by Lethabo. Karin and her ladies were wonderful hosts! Lying on the big bed and watching the animals grazing about felt like being on a far-away African Safari, definitely not feeling so close to the city. We just wished that we could spend another night. We will definitely be back, bringing our friends so that we can book out the tented camp.” – Kemp TripAdvisor.
