Stress has many different causes, which can vary from person to person, but when it does go unchecked, researchers say it can lead to many chronic health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes.
I recently found myself needing to de-stress and decided to go to the magnificent Camelot Spa at the Boardwalk Hotel in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth.
The second you enter Camelot Spa, you know that you have made the right choice.
I was greeted by Lauren Hayward, the Spa Manager, who led me to a changing room.
I had decided to try their Floatation Pool Therapy treatment, followed by a rejuvenating back, neck and shoulder massage.
After changing, I was introduced to my massage therapist, Fatima, who served me a delicious tea infusion and guided me to the hydrotherapy room – where the Floatation Pool was.
Flotation Therapy is essentially a way of achieving deep relaxation by spending 30min and lying quietly, suspended in a warm solution of Magnesium salt.
The second, I put my foot in the water I knew I was in for a totally relaxing experience. I was floating in the salty water with my eyes closed as I let all my stress float away.
I was in such a state of relaxation and peace I felt like I could have been floating on air.
After reluctantly getting out of the water and rinsing myself off, I was led to my massage suite for my back massage. Needless to say, the Flotation Pool had left me feeling very mellow at this stage.
Fatima made sure I was warm and comfortable as she began the massage. She immediately discovered I carried a lot of tension in one of my shoulders. I was impressed as I had actually torn a muscle in my shoulder last year, but did not mention it. So, she did what she could to help ease the tension in that specific area for me.
Having never experienced a back massage before, I was absolutely amazed by how thorough and relaxing the massage was – at one point I almost drifted off to sleep!
I left feeling totally stress-free and rejuvenated. My skin also felt softer and more radiant from the Flotation Therapy. I also found the service from their staff excellent. I can highly recommend Camelot Spa to anyone needing a refreshing treat. For bookings, email boardwalk@camelotspa.co.za or call 041 507 9419.
