So much to experience with Addo Cruises & Sand Sledding

I recently had the opportunity to enjoy an exhilarating river cruise and a sand sledding experience with a friend, courtesy of the Addo Cruises and Sand Sledding Company.

This was my first time going on a river cruise and trying out sand sledding – and I can honestly say the experience was incredible!

Addo Cruises and Sand Sledding are the oldest river cruise company on the Sundays River. Thus, you can rest assured that the skipper of your cruise has years of experience under his belt, and will ensure your safety throughout the cruise.

We arrived at the meeting point at about 9am, put on some sunscreen and got a bottle of water in hand as the skies were clear and sunny – absolutely perfect for a cruise down the river.

The relaxing atmosphere of the surrounding area and smooth sailing thanks to the lack of wind made the cruise very tranquil. And as a wildlife lover, it was fun spotting the various bird species on the river mouth and seeing some energetic fish that jumped out of the water from time to time.

After going up river, we passed the old Mackay Bridge and made our way back down so that we could reach the dunes for our sand sledding experience.

Having climbed the dreaded Dune 7 in Namibia before, I wasn’t too worried about climbing up a sand dune or two when we reached them. Though it does take some effort, the climb is well worth it for the spectacular view from the top.

After waxing the bottom of our sand sled, the skipper taught us how to sit and most importantly, how to brake. Once we got the courage to sit in the sled, all it took was a simple push and we were off.

And what a ride it was! The slide down was smooth and fast and totally adrenalin-pumping, and lucky for us the boards have been designed in such a way that we didn’t have to worry about crashing. So, naturally we had had to go again!

Once we had our fill of fun, it was back to the ferry and up the river to the docking area.

This experience was absolutely amazing and I hope to one day do it again, Addo Cruises and Sand Sledding know just what to do to give their clients a great experience.
